About The Position

ELL teacher aides are members of the classroom instructional team and provide assistance and support to English language learners. Under the supervision of an administrator and the direction of certified staff, ELL teacher aides assist the teacher in the education of students through instructional assistance, organization, recordkeeping, management of student behavior, and classroom safety. Communication with students, support staff, parents, and other family members, as directed, is an important part of this job.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Able to read and write in both languages.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Conscientiously accept and follow directions
  • Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Must verify good health by passing a physical examination, which includes TB and drug test as required.
  • Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
  • Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with English language learners is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ability to implement teacher-directed plans for instructing identified ELL students
  • Ability to translate documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English
  • Ability to interpret for staff, families, and students.
  • Ability to assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
  • Ability to assist in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to the individual educational needs of students.
  • Ability to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
  • Ability to safely operate all classroom equipment as required.
  • Ability to implement the vision and mission of the district.
  • Ability to prepare for classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
  • Ability to work with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Principal or teacher.
