About The Position

Penn State is searching for a full time Elevator Systems Technician - Grade 2 - Grade 2 to join the team. Duties include: Service, maintain, repair, install and inspect mechanical, electrical, and solid state components on a wide variety of hydraulic and cable operated elevators, lifts, hoists, cranes, dumb waiters, and similar forms of transportation Service, maintain, install, program and adjust mechanical, and electrical controls and sensing devices to include solid state electronic devices, relay logic, frequency drives and associated controls Perform scheduled maintenance functions such as recabling of elevators, replacement of worn bearings, replacement of brushes in electric motors, repacking hydraulic rams, adjustment of carbons and contacts on electric motor controls, etc. Conduct elevator safety tests to meet federal, state and university requirements including but not limited to fire recall and capacity tests Diagnose malfunctions; determine extent of repairs necessary; tear down equipment and repair or replace worn or damaged parts as necessary Repair, replace, and adjust a variety of electrical and mechanical controlling devices such as, but not limited to, door closures, call button systems, car leveling devices, motor and generator controls, hoisting equipment, etc. Maintain and assist in the installation of emergency telephones and card swipe access systems Read and analyze electrical and electronic schematic diagrams in order to diagnose malfunctions Diagnose malfunctions in electronic circuit boards; replace or repair as necessary Work with lead elevator technician, contractors, engineers and supervisor as needed on more complicated assignments Occasionally direct the work of lower graded employees and apprentices as required Install and maintain hydraulic equipment including but not limited to trash compactors, lifts, bollards and tracks Use a variety of hand tools and portable power tools, electric meters, etc. , to diagnose malfunctions and make repairs Document daily report of work performed indicating service and repair work accomplished using required methods Report unusual conditions and possible hazardous conditions to supervisor or lead technician compile accurate lists of elevator parts needed and turn in to supervisor or lead technician Respond to on-duty and off-duty emergency calls and make repairs as necessary Operate university vehicles as required

Requirements

  • Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft.
  • Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education.
  • Over 3 years up to and including 5 years of effective experience.
