About The Position

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more! Why work for Inclusion Services? All MSCR Staff receive specific Professional Development training geared to working with people with disabilities. We provide ongoing coaching to help grow your skills and offer opportunities to advance. We serve locations all over the city and try our best to match staff with their location preference. During summer, MSCR offers the Summer Recreation and Enrichment Centers (SREC), which provides extended programming at the MMSD Summer Semester sites. Additionally, MSCR provides a program called Camp Compass, which provides all day childcare (7:45am-5:30pm). The Lead Inclusion AD is assigned to either one SREC or Camp Compass site depending on skillset and participant need.

Requirements

  • Experience working in youth programs and/or inclusive recreation programs (childcare, camps, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with children, their parents/guardians, and the public
  • Knowledgeable about a variety of disability areas and common support strategies
  • General computer knowledge of Excel and Google applications
  • Proven dependability, teamwork, leadership skills and enthusiasm

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting individuals with complex medical needs and people with disabilities with more intense support needs
  • Experience assessing for and developing support plans for individuals with disabilities
  • Strong organizational skills and recreation or educational program planning knowledge
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Training such as Crisis Management & Interventions, Managing Threatening Confrontations, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention

Responsibilities

  • Support Assistant Directors and other staff in supporting participants with disabilities across the program helping to create an inclusive program.
  • Advocate for individuals with disabilities to receive reasonable accommodations or modifications.
  • Coordinate schedules of Recreation Inclusion Staff (RIS) for day to day operations including field trips and planning ahead to ensure every staff and participant has what they need to be successful in changing environments. Attend field trips if specific participants need additional support.
  • Assist in the development and execution of inclusion plans which may include: reviewing education plans, conducting observations, collaboration with MMSD Summer School staff (if at your site) and parents, and input from site directors and Inclusion Services Specialists.
  • Assist with training and coaching all staff in inclusive practices and strategies; act as a resource on inclusion practices for Program Leaders and/or Recreation Inclusion Staff.
  • Facilitate open communication with parents of program participants, participants, SREC staff, Summer School staff and others.
  • Coordinate Inclusion Services for individuals with disabilities across the SREC or Camp Compass program in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and MSCR’s mission/vision.
  • In addition to the above duties, this position may also be required to engage in General Assistant Director Responsibilities.
