About The Position

New Milford Public Schools, a growth-oriented, progressive K-12 public school district, has the following opening for the 2025-2026 school year: Special Education Teacher - Tenure Track The Department of Special Services is looking for a dynamic teacher for our self-contained program that services students with autism and multiple disabilities. Candidates should have strong communication skills for working with families and instructional assistants. Looking for someone who is creative, energetic and willing to work on a team. Knowledge of ABA methodology, behavior management, and data collection is a plus but not required. Special education teaching certificate required. The following experiences are an integral part of the position: ? Experience with ABA methodology ? Use of AAC devices ? Determining appropriate instructional programs through collected data ? Working with BCBA regarding student behavioral challenges ? Communicate effectively with parents about progress and home support ? Teach students with special needs using various methods and materials ? Provide a learning environment using best practices for students with ASD ? Model academic and social expectations ? Collect and analyze data gathered from various developmental appropriate sources and use the data to determine appropriate instructional programs ? Attend IEP meetings along with department and school-based meetings ? Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding ? Manage the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment ? Recognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept ?
