About The Position

The Reading Instructional Coach at Hills Elementary is a specialized instructional leadership role focused on improving academic achievement in literacy for students in grades 3–5 by strengthening instructional practice in reading and writing classrooms. The instructional coach models Santa Fe South’s Core Values and contributes to improved student outcomes by building teacher capacity through deep content knowledge, data-driven instructional decision-making, and research-based instructional practice. At Santa Fe South, instructional coaches are content specialists who support teachers in developing strong, standards-aligned instruction that leads to measurable student growth. The Reading Instructional Coach brings strong classroom experience in upper elementary literacy instruction, including a solid understanding of the science of reading and the progression of literacy development from foundational skills into comprehension, writing, and analytical thinking. The coach supports teachers in anticipating student misconceptions, analyzing student work and assessment data, and refining instruction to ensure students are progressing toward mastery of grade-level standards. As part of this work, the instructional coach partners closely with teachers to analyze data-based student needs and current teacher practice to set performance and development goals. Common coaching activities include modeling lessons, co-planning instruction, co-teaching, observation and feedback, and individual conferencing with teachers. The instructional coach may facilitate content teams and assist the site leader in providing professional development for staff. In addition, the coach collaborates with the district Academic Team to support curriculum implementation, common assessments, and strong literacy instruction across classrooms.
