About The Position

One Compass, One Crew, One Mission Principal - Millicoma School for the 2026-2027 School Year Millicoma School s erves students in grades 3-6 within the Coos Bay School District. Our new administrative team member will work closely with the building staff to foster an environment where students thrive academically and socially. Emphasis will be placed on supporting literacy initiatives, particularly through Oregon Response to Instruction and Intervention (ORTIi), along with school-wide improvement efforts focused on attendance, behavior support, and student engagement. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field.
  • Must hold or be eligible for an Oregon Administrative License, with experience in staff supervision, curriculum and instruction, assessment, and educational reform.
  • Requires 3-5 years of experience teaching or leading an elementary school, with expertise in literacy instruction, particularly within the Oregon Response to Intervention (ORTIi) framework.

  • Collaborative Leadership : Ability to work collaboratively with staff, yet make decisive, data-driven decisions for school improvement.
  • MTSS Expertise : Experience with MTSS in academic (literacy and math) and behavioral contexts, specifically for striving students.
  • PLC Expertise: Proficient in designing, implementing, and evaluating effective PLC models.
  • Teacher and Staff Evaluation : Familiarity with evaluating teacher effectiveness and providing feedback to improve instructional practices.
  • Behavioral and Attendance Supports: Skilled in leading school-wide initiatives to enhance attendance and implement impactful behavior support and management systems.
  • Positive Behavior Management : Training in Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) is highly desirable.
  • Special Education and 504 Knowledge : Experience with Special Education and 504 plans .
  • Oregon State Laws & Federal Programs : Knowledge of Oregon school laws and regulations, as well as Federal grants and programs such as Title I , Title IX , and Title X .

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership : Collaborate with building staff to implement best practices in literacy instruction, with the support of the Oregon Response to Instruction and Intervention (ORTIi), to improve student reading outcomes. Demonstrated knowledge of elementary math content standards and ability to lead standards-based instruction.
  • School Culture and Climate : Foster a positive school climate that promotes high expectations for academic achievement, student behavior, and attendance. Lead efforts to improve school-wide attendance and behavior interventions.
  • Building Management: Oversee and manage school scheduling, discretionary and student body funds, contractual compliance, building maintenance, and security.
  • Student Support and Management : Utilize Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for academics and behavior, ensuring all students receive the appropriate support to succeed.
  • Parent and Community Engagement : Build strong partnerships with families and the community to support student success.
  • Staff Development : Work with teachers and staff to ensure quality professional development and effective instructional practices, including teacher evaluations and execution of Professional Learning Communities (PLC)
  • Data Analysis and Reporting : Analyze student data, including academic, attendance, and behavior trends, to inform decisions and create improvement strategies.
  • Program and Compliance Oversight : Ensure compliance with Oregon state laws, including Special Education, 504 plans, and Federal programs such as Title I, Title IX, and Title X.
