About The Position

Tulsa Honor Academy’s Elementary Principal in Training is a member of our Network Leadership Team and Senior Leadership team. The Elementary Principal in Training will spend one (1) year in the planning and preparation phase leading into the anticipated opening of the Tulsa Honor Academy Elementary School for the 2027-2028 school year. During this year, the Elementary Principal in Training will engage in applied practice to observe and become proficient in the responsibilities and skills of a THA Principal. The person in this role is intended to transition into the founding Elementary Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • 4+ years of experience as a teacher and/or school leader is required with a proven track record of student achievement.
  • School leadership experience is required

Nice To Haves

  • Active Oklahoma Teacher’s certification preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Leadership experience in high-performing charter school strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in a school serving a similar population to THA’s is preferred
  • Charter school experience is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the CAO, CEO, and/or other members of the THA Senior Leadership Team to co-design elements of the Elementary school model in alignment with the overall Tulsa Honor Academy Mission and Vision, adopting best practices as observed in selected national high-performing charter schools.
  • Plan and execute operational preparations for a projected opening in the Fall of 2027 which may include work with facilities, classroom set-up, designing scholar-facing systems, move-in days, purchases etc.
  • Provide support in the charter expansion approval process such as collecting signatures of support, working with families to speak at the authorizer’s board meeting, and speaking at the public board meeting.
  • Recruit and hire an excellent team of mission-aligned teachers and staff
  • Serve as a recruiter for new scholars; actively engaging prospective families and the larger community in an effort to meet enrollment targets while preparing families and scholars to be successful in our school.
  • Collaborate with applicable network leaders in building foundational Elementary Curriculum materials that will drive college-ready academic results.
  • Observe, practice and become proficient in the skills of a THA Principal in the the following areas: Academic Achievement Scholar Culture School Operations Adult Learning Leadership of Team Leadership of Self First Team
  • Take on intentional assignments at various school sites and/or the network office to gain embedded/applied practice
