About The Position

The Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Coordinator will instruct and assist school staff and parents by promoting a positive school climate and the social and emotional growth of all elementary students. As a part of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), the P ositive Behavior Intervention and Support Coordinator will coach staff on school-wide positive behavior interventions and supports as well as coordinate tier II and tier III interventions and supports.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate/license in the area(s) of elementary education, special education, social work, counseling, psychology, or BCBA
  • Minimum of three years of experience, working with students with intensive social-emotional needs
  • Training in applied behavior analysis
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in assessing the function of student behaviors and developing Positive Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Experience in implementing and/or coaching school personnel on evidence-based classroom management and individualized behavioral interventions
  • Extensive knowledge of school-wide positive behavior supports and interventions
  • Ability to collect, summarize, and graph behavioral data
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of technology to support instruction and data collection
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Must have the proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
  • Meet professional certification requirements of school, district and state

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in related field preferred
  • START training, CPI, and CPR certifications preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance on tier I social-emotional support and school-wide positive behavior interventions and supports
  • Model appropriate behavioral interventions for staff
  • Provide professional development that targets research-based strategies and the modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support in their classrooms
  • Facilitate team meetings that address classroom organization, effective instruction, social emotional instruction, PBIS, childhood trauma, and any other factors that could affect the effectiveness of changing classroom behaviors
  • Provide training to paraprofessionals to support their work with student instruction and interventions
  • Coordinate the placement of the social emotional paraprofessionals and prioritize the needs in buildings to determine social emotional paraprofessional placements in the time of need
  • Model appropriate instruction and social emotional interventions for staff
  • Implement and monitor the implementation of positive behavioral interventions
  • Support staff and students in the school setting (i.e. during transitions between classes, beginning and end of the day, at recess, lunch, and specials) with optimizing social interactions and social pragmatic instruction in real life situations
  • Create materials to provide positive behavioral supports and interventions that align with academic and social emotional programming
  • Collaborate with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff through training, modeling and meeting facilitation, on issues such as crisis intervention, childhood trauma, and the development and implementation of positive behavioral supports and interventions
  • Provide direct support during times of escalated behaviors and/or crisis situations and coordinate team support
  • Collaborate with related services staff within the buildings and on district-wide goals
  • Actively participate in building-level Tier II and Tier III teams, including elementary Student Support Team meetings, as well as district-level Tier II and Tier III teams and the District Implementation Team, to support both student-level problem solving and system-wide initiatives
  • Lead the team in the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments and Positive Behavior Support Plans, as well as the use of data, continued progress monitoring, and fidelity checks
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities
