About The Position

Discovery Elementary is a Leader In Me Lighthouse School. We are seeking a positive and talented Paraprofessional to join our Special Education team as a long term substitute! Paraprofessionals provide social, physical, and academic support and/or supervision in education settings, including but not limited to, the cafeteria, classrooms, recess, and assemblies. Anticipated start date: Late September or early October 2025. (after long term role, ability to stay on the substitute roster for additional positions within the district)

Requirements

• 36 credit hours from an accredited college/university or 20-hour DESE approved substitute training course
• Missouri Substitute Certificate
• Ability to relate to students, staff, and parents in a positive manner
• Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form
• Ability to follow written and oral communication
• Ability to problem solve
• Missouri substitute teaching certificate required or valid Missouri teaching certificate (preferred)
• Job related experience is required
• Cleared Background Screenings including FBI Fingerprinting and Family Care Safety Registry, required
• Resume, copy of transcripts (if applicable), copy of certification, if applicable, 3 references email/phone, required

Responsibilities

• Assist students with disabilities according to their individualized needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
• Assist students with physical care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
• Assist in managing the behavior of students
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
• Maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and law
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events when requested by administration
• Help supervise arrival and departure of students, and provide supervision and support in multiple settings throughout the school day
• Follow instructions from teachers and administrators
