About The Position

Elementary Schools SCSD2 is seeking a full-time Literacy Teacher Leader starting in August of the 2027/2028 school year. Due to the certification requirements for this position, the successful candidate will need to complete the necessary training during the 2026/2027 school year in order to obtain the required qualifications outlined within this posting. Requirements

  • Master's Degree.
  • Meets teaching licensure requirements as stipulated by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB).
  • Willing and able to obtain a "Reading Specialist" or similar endorsement to demonstrate literacy competency in accordance with the Wyoming K-12 Language and Literacy Program as outlined by Wyoming PTSB.
  • Willing and able to obtain a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader Certification prior to employment. SCSD2 is willing to reimburse reasonable costs associated with the education / training required for this certification, provided the selected candidate remains in this role for at least 3 consecutive school years.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and teach elementary literacy learners selected to receive Reading Recovery and other interventions to teach him/her more effectively and to evaluate his/her progress more accurately.
  • Serve a minimum of four one-on-one first graders in Reading Recovery during the initial training year, and at least two in subsequent years.
  • Provide in-depth screening and diagnostic literacy evaluations, including the Observation Survey of Early Literacy Achievement, and structure programs of intervention, including Reading Recovery.
  • Maintain a healthy, strength-based climate for learning with at-risk literacy learners, taking special care to assist the students in developing literacy skills and a self-extending system.
  • Facilitate collaboration between classroom teachers, intervention teachers, families, and administration regarding literacy learning, including the implementation of Individualized Learning Plans to students at-risk.
  • Develop, evaluate, select, and order special materials and equipment for literacy instruction and intervention.
  • Provide on-going professional development, consulting, and coaching services to administrative and instructional personnel regarding special reading problems and literacy learning, including Reading Recovery. Some responsibilities may occur outside of normal contract days/hours.
  • Plan, host, and participate in the Wyoming Reading Recovery Institute annually.
  • Remain abreast of developments in literacy and intervention education, including Reading Recovery, through professional reading, study, and activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities for Reading Recovery Teacher Leaders sponsored by the university training center, attend the annual Teacher Leader Institute, attend LitCon through the Literacy Council of North America each year, and other professional development as assigned.
  • Teach an annual district training class of 8 to 12 Reading Recovery teachers as needs dictate within the site, including an annual Observation Survey training, and training for other screening and diagnostic assessments, including practice with children.
  • Provide trained teachers with at least six on-going professional development sessions each year, including a minimum of four behind-the-glass sessions with two lessons each session.
  • Ensure that eighty percent (80%) of class training sessions over the academic year (or a minimum of 18 sessions, whichever is greater) each include two behind-the-glass lessons, and ensure that teachers teach behind the glass at least three times during their training year and once a year in subsequent years.
  • Visit teachers in training at least 4 to 6 times during the year and trained teachers at least twice a year to provide support and coaching.
  • Maintain affiliation with a university training center and serve as an adjunct faculty member in the university granting credit; develop and follow course syllabi, which includes content and up-to-date training materials, to comply with Reading Recovery and university/college guidelines.
  • Collect continuous data on Reading Recovery children using Literacy Council of North America approved format, procedures and materials and prepares an annual site report and submits it to the affiliated university training center, and other data as assigned.
  • Work with the site coordinator and administrators to assure quality implementation at each site, monitor the selection and progress of children using teachers' records, and assist teachers and principals in preparing annual school reports.
  • Inform appropriate groups about Reading Recovery and other interventions and advocate for high levels of literacy learning for all students.
  • Receive a minimum of two site visits from a trainer or teacher leader specialist during the teacher leader's first year(s) in the field. Subsequent annual or periodic visits are based upon request of the university training center or site.
  • Conduct and receive a colleague visit with other teacher leaders annually, when possible.
  • In collaboration with Literacy Coordinators, Principals, and the Assistant Superintendent, ensure compliance with Wyoming's K-12 Language and Literacy Program as outlined by SF0059.
