About The Position

This position is responsible for an elementary special education autism classroom. The person in this position is expected to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program for an elementary environment that guides and encourages students to develop and grow. They must demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds. They will participate in professional activities as well as extracurricular and/or academic support activities. This position is part of the elementary team and reports to the principal.

Requirements

  • Kansas Teaching License: Elementary Handicapped Unified, Adaptive Special Education (PreK-12), or Functional Special Education (PreK-12).
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability background
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, peers and staff
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills
  • Highly collaborative team player
  • High degree of motivation, responsibility and confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to facilitate active learning.
  • Instruct, encourage and monitor students' learning--adjusting strategies as needed to optimize learning.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records of students' progress--and prepare all required related documentation.
  • Participate and contribute as requested in meetings with department, school, district, parents and community.
  • Manage student behavior and maintain discipline in accordance with district rules and procedures.
  • Train and supervise paraeducators to support the learning of students.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
