About The Position

Liberty Common School is seeking a full-time assistant Principal beginning July 2026 at the Plato Campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. Liberty Common School is a public, tuition-free school chartered by the Poudre School District, utilizing the Core Knowledge© Sequence (K–8) and timeless principles of classically oriented education. The Plato Campus currently enrolls over 590 students in grades K–6. Liberty Common School follows the Core Knowledge© Sequence in grades K–8. This curriculum encompasses language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, fine arts, and physical education. It is characterized by content-rich instruction, cumulative knowledge, content-specific lessons, and coherent sequencing. The school’s mission is to provide excellence and fairness in education by teaching a contextual body of organized knowledge, the skills of learning, and the values of a democratic society. This is accomplished through parental choice, partnership with teachers, and student acceptance of responsibility for his/her academic effort. The Assistant Principal will coordinate closely with the Plato Campus Principal to support all aspects of the elementary program (grades K–6), including teacher supervision and development, student character education and discipline, academic support coordination, assessment oversight, and representation of the campus in alignment with the school's vision, mission, and Board directives. Requirements

  • Desire and willingness to learn about Liberty Common School’s history and philosophy and to uphold and promote the school’s mission and values.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in education and school leadership, preferably in a charter school.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team and to effectively manage others.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, plus five or more years of experience in school leadership (e.g., professional classroom teaching, school administration, or equivalent private-sector experience).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the academic excellence of Liberty Common School by promoting the school’s vision.
  • Assist the Principal in ensuring fidelity in teaching the school’s curriculum, including fidelity to the Core Knowledge© Sequence as set by the Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Principal in providing supervision, evaluation, training, and support for teachers.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to develop and deliver professional development.
  • Provide training, supervision, evaluation, and ongoing support for the school’s Teacher Assistants.
  • Assist the Principal with the school’s character education program and utilize all available opportunities to provide character education to the student body (e.g., through discipline, lessons, and modeling).
  • Assist the Principal in managing student discipline and related parent communications.
  • Assist the Principal in overseeing all aspects of student leadership and student life programs, including student council, field trips, events, clubs, and athletics.
  • Help supervise students before and after school, during lunch and passing periods, and at student events that may occur outside regular hours.
  • Coordinate and consult with the Academic Support Team Coordinator, Principal, Special Services Providers, and the student-teacher Achievement Team (STAT) to ensure all students have access to a Liberty Common education. This includes, but is not limited to: MTSS, Child Find, Special Education evaluation and individualized planning, Section 504 evaluation and accommodation planning, English Language Development identification and planning, and ECEA 12.00 identification and planning.
  • Serve as the campus School Assessment Coordinator (SAC), coordinating and collaborating across Liberty Common campuses and with the district assessment coordinator.
  • Assist the Principal with requested areas, including but not limited to: curriculum, hiring, evaluations, observations, state and district reporting, and data assessment.
  • Advise the Principal on ways to enhance current systems and maintain school culture as the school grows and advances.
  • Collaborate with the administrative team to set and meet goals for Liberty Common School, and work with the administration and Board of Directors toward the betterment of the school (K–12).
