About The Position

Electronic Technician I: Performs skilled electronics technical support work. Work involves installing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electronic systems and equipment, operating and testing circuits and calibrating electronic instruments. Work requires contact with departmental employees and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Electronic Technician II: Performs skilled and complex electronics technical support work. Work involves installing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electronic systems and equipment. Work requires contact with departmental employees and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Electronic Technician III: Performs skilled and highly complex electronics technical support work. Work involves installing, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing electronic systems and equipment. Work requires contact with departmental employees and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • 5 years experience in electronic systems, equipment installation, repair. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Considerable knowledge of: Radio installation and repair Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Proficient skill in: Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external Troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical components and subsystems Installing and maintaining equipment Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade Using applicable electronic test equipment
  • 6 years experience in electronic systems, equipment installation, repair. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Extensive knowledge of: Radio installation and repair Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Proficient skill in: Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external Troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical Installing and maintaining equipment Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining equipment of the trade Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade Using applicable electronic test equipment Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others Ability to: Work in cramped spaces (bend, stoop, crawl) and at varied heights
  • 7 years experience in electronic systems, equipment installation, repair. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
  • Extensive knowledge of: Electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repair techniques Radio installation and repair Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Proficient skill in: Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment Installing and maintaining equipment Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining equipment of the trade Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade Ability to: Work in cramped spaces (bend, stoop, crawl) and at varied heights

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates work and troubleshoots microprocessor controlled, frequency synthesized, programmed mobile radios, base stations and miscellaneous electrical equipment.
  • Installs, removes, tests and repairs mobile two-way radio equipment.
  • Installs, removes, tests and repairs two-way base communications, repeaters, microwaves and associated electronic equipment using electronic testing equipment including spectrum monitors, frequency monitors and volt-ohm meters.
  • Maintains records of equipment and call signs.
  • Orders parts and equipment and keeps records of repairs, employee time and mileage.
  • Provides input on future budget requirements.
  • Receives and processes work orders from district sections and coordinates equipment repairs.
  • Responsible for maintaining digital and analog systems with multiplex.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Keeps abreast of technology changes and researches new technologies to address needs for electronic systems and equipment.
