About The Position

Weir Marine Engineering is seeking an Electronic Engineer to join our Electronics Measurement and Control group. This role supports the engineering team in the development, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic equipment, data acquisition systems, and control systems. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented and versatile engineer capable of applying sound engineering analysis, strong analytical reasoning, and general programming skills, including the ability to learn and adapt to legacy codebases. Responsibilities include supporting in-house embedded software and electronic system development. The position is primarily based in an office or laboratory environment, with occasional field assignments aboard ships and short travel to external test sites. Requirements

  • Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably in Electrical Engineering); or complementary professional experience in engineering domain relevant to this position.
  • Work experience with organized measurement and control systems, microcontrollers, electronic circuits and sensors, and measurement instruments.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of National Instrument LabVIEW software, or interest in learning it.
  • Proficiency in technical writing in English and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with peers, supervisors, and clients; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Apply practical electronics knowledge and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot, test, and optimize electronic equipment and subsystems.
  • Perform hands-on diagnostics using test instruments, interpret schematics and wiring diagrams, and carry out repairs or modifications as required.
  • Support system bring-up, integration, and validation activities in laboratory and field environments.
  • Demonstrate advanced problem-solving abilities and understanding of underlying physical concepts to evaluate and optimize data acquisition systems.
  • Possess general programming skills and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new or legacy programming languages; experience with LabVIEW is an asset.
  • Produce clear, structured, and technically accurate documentation—including reports, procedures, and system descriptions—while maintaining version control using appropriate source control tools.
  • Perform data acquisition and field testing, including sensor installation and use of test equipment.
  • Analyze collected data and produce detailed technical reports.
  • Work closely with a diverse team of engineers and technologists, providing technical support and developing solutions to engineering challenges.
