About The Position

Our mission is to accelerate the exploration of Earth’s final frontier—the ocean—by pioneering autonomous technologies and unlocking transparent, actionable intelligence. We believe that understanding the ocean is essential to thriving on this planet and beyond. The ocean is not just a vast body of water—it is the foundation of our climate, our resources, our communications, and our energy. As critical infrastructure increasingly moves beneath the waves, our ability to explore, map, and safeguard the ocean’s bedrock becomes vital. We’re not just connecting the world by sea—we’re revealing the deep, unseen structure that connects all life. To secure our future, we must first understand the ground beneath us, the foundation of our civilization. As an Electronics Assembly Technician, you will own the build and validation of the electronic heart of our autonomous underwater vehicles and subsea systems. This role is more than basic PCB rework—you will assemble, power, test, debug, and validate complete electronic subsystems, helping transition designs from prototype to scalable production. You will take ownership of electronics-heavy assembly work so senior engineers can focus on design, while you ensure boards, harnesses, power systems, and integrated electronics are built, tested, and production-ready. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves building real hardware, using lab tools daily, and bridging the gap between electrical design and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 5+ years building and testing real electronic hardware in robotics, aerospace, marine, medical, or industrial systems
  • Experience assembling PCBAs and full electronic subsystems—not just rework
  • Experience supporting designs from prototype through production
  • Experience with and understanding of ESD-safe component handling
  • Comfortable working in R&D environments where designs evolve rapidly
  • Advanced soldering and PCBA assembly/rework (fine pitch, QFN, SON exposure preferred)
  • Assembly and validation of PCBAs and electronic subsystems
  • Harness fabrication
  • Experience with batteries, power electronics, and power distribution
  • Experience with PCB modifications, rework, repairs, jumper wiring, for rugged repairs
  • Daily use of lab tools: oscilloscopes, DMMs, electronic loads, power supplies, current probes, logic analyzers
  • Ability to debug power, signal integrity, and functional issues
  • Ability to read schematics, layouts, and wiring diagrams
  • Experience creating and maintaining assembly and test procedures
  • Strong workmanship and attention to detail
  • Hands-on, builder mindset—loves making hardware real
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging instincts
  • Comfortable working in fast-changing environments
  • Clear communicator with engineers, technicians, and operations teams
  • Takes ownership of work and quality
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs and work in lab, shop, and field environments
  • Capable of standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working with tools for extended periods
  • Ability to work in person at Richmond office
  • Up to 15% travel to support field and integration efforts

Nice To Haves

  • Basic familiarity with RF, sensors, and communication systems a plus
  • Experience with RF systems, antennas, or wireless modules
  • Familiarity with design-for-manufacturing and design-for-test principles
  • CAD or ECAD literacy
  • Programming or scripting for test automation
  • Subsea, marine, or robotics industry experience

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate PCBAs, electronic modules, and full electronic subsystems
  • Perform advanced soldering, PCBA population, rework, and modification beyond basic repair
  • Build and integrate power systems, batteries, regulators, and distribution boards
  • Fabricate and integrate wiring harnesses and electronic assemblies into vehicles
  • Support the assembly and test of electromechanical assemblies as a system, not confined to electronics only.
  • Power up, bring up, and validate new electronic assemblies across hardware and software tool interfaces
  • Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, logic analyzers, and power supplies to debug issues
  • Support RF, sensor, and communication system bring-up and validation as needed
  • Troubleshoot electronics at board, subsystem, and system level
  • Build first articles and prototypes directly from early electrical designs
  • Support transition from prototype to production by refining build methods
  • Create and improve electronics assembly, test, and bring-up procedures
  • Support the creation of test fixtures for PCBAs and other subassemblies
  • Develop clear work instructions for electronics assembly and test
  • Maintain traceability for electronic builds and test results
  • Provide feedback to engineers on design-for-assembly and design-for-test
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, integration team, and field operators
  • Serve as the primary hands-on electronics builder so designers can focus on architecture and design
  • Support integration, test, and field teams when electronics issues arise
