Hear about the Caterpillar Experience for yourself Role Definition The Electronics and Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting industrial control systems and electronic hardware used in automated manufacturing environments. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment through control logic development, system integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of electronics and controls systems.

Requirements

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Knowledge of design for manufacturability guidelines, methodologies, and use cases; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs and manufacturing operations.
  • Engineering - Manufacturing: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
  • Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
  • Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing the requirements of electronic systems and components based on customer requirements; making and adjusting design plans accordingly.
  • Designing, testing and creating electronic systems and components, while ensuring that products can work alone and/or are compatible with other systems.
  • Collaborating with colleagues in electronics and other engineering functions.
  • Adhering to safety regulations throughout the development process.
  • Will be troubleshooting shop floor problems associated with induction power supplies, with preferred experience working with vendors such as Ajax, Pillar, and ENRX.
