Requirements

  • Associate Degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
  • Two years healthcare/radiology experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior PACS or RIS experience strongly preferred.
  • Language Skills: Ability to comprehend technical instructions, analyze and interpret general healthcare periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present technical and service related information and respond to questions in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Knowledge of medical terminology is highly preferred.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digits numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to logically define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions. Ability to maintain a detailed, professional presence in busy, chaotic environments.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts training classes on PACS supported software applications using appropriate training techniques and level of communications.
  • Routinely checks hospital-wide PACS monitors to ensure that studies are flowing from the acquisition modalities and are properly routed to the review stations to assure a clinical continuity of service.
  • Retrieves and/or creates patients' electronic folders and physical radiology jackets.
  • Accesses reports and other patient or exam data via the RIS, PACS and related software systems.
  • Communicates reports and/or image data to the appropriate physician's office in a timely manner.
  • Re-prints and packages images via PACS, film, and/or CD's for distribution and delivery to physicians' offices utilizing proper Quality Assurance measures.
  • Assists the radiologist, other physicians and staff in the execution of their duties by acting as a resource person for timely, effective use of services, both in electronic and manual modalities.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and documents unread studies log, exam problems, and service calls in order to meet established turn around times of exam availability.
  • Provides coverage for the Radiology reception area by greeting patient's, ordering exams, and distributing exam prep as necessary.
  • Provides first line support to the radiologists for Voxar 3D application.
  • Runs weekly cancer conference by receiving in requests, preparing and reviewing studies with the radiologist, and preparing and presenting studies at the conference.
  • Assist with the build of current and future radiology information systems.
  • Cross trained in the setup of the Digital Mammography system in the Breast Care Center to allow for exam setup assistance as well as prior film hanging.
