About The Position

Assembly This occupation includes assembly of electronic components and subassemblies; fabrication and test of RF semi-rigid coaxial cables, installation and hookups in consoles and cabinets, manual and machine circuit checks, complete assembly of major electronic units such as chassis, TRU's, consoles and cabinets. Electro Mechanical This occupation includes the fabrication, assembly, installation, rework, and functional check of electrical and mechanical parts, assemblies and electro mechanical assemblies, modifications to production, prototype, developmental and experimental electronic systems. Encapsulation This occupation includes the development of procedures for encapsulating, or otherwise packaging electronic assemblies; includes mixing and application of these compounds and the application of identification marking, as required. Performing complete soldering, cleaning, and lead trimming of circuit card assemblies and backplanes.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret assembly instructions.
  • Perform solder and crimping as required by specifications.
  • Perform mechanical assembly operations.
  • May operate spray guns, air brushes, stencil cutting machines and other lettering equipment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain and hold ESD, Material Handling, and Solder Certifications.
  • Five (5) years experience as an electronic assembler preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret assembly instructions and blueprints.
  • Perform solder and crimping as required by specifications in accordance with IPS-A-610/620 and/or IPC J-STD-001.
  • Perform mechanical assembly operations.
  • Experienced in the operation of spray guns, air brushes, stencil cutting machines and other lettering equipment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • ESD, Material Handling, and Solder Certifications.
  • 10+ years experience as an electronic assembler.
  • 5+ years experience in conformal Coat, potting and/or encapsulation.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to use various crimping tools.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the sequence and perform the operations necessary to assemble complete electronic units working from released or pre-released drawings, written or verbal information and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform solder, crimp, and wire wrap methods as required by specification.
  • Perform required mechanical assembly operations.
  • Set up and operate semi-automatic and automatic insertion, resistive welding, automatic sleeve stamping, coil winding, overbraid, wire cutting, and wire wrap equipment to assemble electronic components and assemblies.
  • Assemble chassis assemblies and commercial equipment into electronic racks.
  • Route and connect power and signal cables and perform ring out of wiring installation.
  • Test and troubleshoot wiring harness and tie boxes that may contain relays, resistors, and capacitors.
  • Troubleshoot wiring errors and component failures using resistance, inductance, and capacitor meters.
  • Translate one dimensional hardline blueprint’s into three dimensional hardlines.
  • Operate mechanical tools to cut, strip, crimp, face, and solder semi-rigid coax.
  • Use precision measuring tools to take measurements with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Test VSWR and insertion loss on hardlines.
  • Perform rework, repair, and modification of the same level of difficulty as described herein.
  • Determine the sequence of operations to assemble, install, rework, and ring out a major unit of an electronic system by use of blueprints, general sketches, and schematic drawings, verbal and written instructions.
  • Perform precision fitting, assembly, and installation of electro-mechanical parts and subassemblies.
  • Fabricate plastic and metal parts of developmental production prototype electro-mechanical components.
  • Use precision machine operations and/or hand operations to complete the assembly or system.
  • Accomplish electro-plating, riveting, dimpling, squeezing, drilling, tapping, and fitting of parts and assemblies, fitting and trimming incidental to and in connection with the work operations described herein.
  • Perform field installation, rework, and repair of completed electronics systems.
  • Maintain production records as required.
  • Maintain certifications to perform the tasks described herein.
  • Develop procedures required to encapsulate or otherwise package electronic assemblies by interpreting engineering requirements, specifications, formulas, and written and verbal technical instructions and by applying a knowledge of the characteristics of synthetic compounds and electronic assemblies and parts.
  • Devise suitable molds, prepare and pour encapsulation compounds and observe, measure and record such action as expansion, heat, penetration and damage to parts.
  • Recommend procedures, molds and methods to comply with engineering requirements.
  • Apply identification marking to assemblies using silk-screens, lettering equipment or stencils.
  • Prepare paints and inks.
  • Operate spray guns, air brushes, stencil cutting machines, and other necessary lettering equipment.
  • Set up and operate flow solder and reflow machines, regulate specific gravity of solder flux, regulate other required solvents and fluids.
  • Set up tooling and fixture specified for the task.
  • Check and adjust speeds and temperatures in accordance with procedures.
  • Perform clean-up of equipment after runs.
  • Check accuracy of engineering/tooling information and report discrepancies to shop engineering supervision.
  • Set up and operate lead trimming machine.
  • Be familiar with proper handling of hazardous material and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Maintain logs, files, maintenance schedules, material utilization and other required records.
  • Maintain required certifications.
