About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: An EMG Technician is a specialized healthcare professional who will assist the physician in diagnosing neuromuscular diseases by performing nerve conduction studies (NCS) and preparing patients for electromyography (EMG) tests.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science or a related field, or equivalent experience in a neurodiagnostic, EMG, or medical setting.
  • Certification by the American Association of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Direct relationship with patients/families, physicians and staff.
  • Classification of work level: Heavy.
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching.
  • May require lifting up to 50 pounds using proper body mechanics.
  • Requires manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax and telephone.
  • Requires hearing and vision that is adequate to perform job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Key responsibilities include attaching electrodes, operating diagnostic equipment, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining equipment.
  • Perform nerve conduction studies (NCS) on peripheral nerves (median, ulnar, radial, peroneal, etc.) by applying stimuli and recording responses.
  • Explain procedures to patients, review medical history, and ensure patient comfort and safety during tests.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot EMG equipment to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Analyze waveforms, calculate results, and prepare preliminary reports for physician review.
  • Assist physicians with needle EMG exams, maintain supply inventory, and uphold infection control standards.
  • Assist with office tasks such as answering phones, rooming patients, and scribing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be exposed to hazardous drugs.
  • Attends OSHA training upon initial employee orientation and annually completes an OSHA competency.
