About The Position

Electroencephalograph Technician operate electronic equipment which graphically records electrical impulses generated in the brain to obtain data for evaluation of certain brain disorders. Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Inpatient EEG tech and/or Foreign medical doctor experience.
  • Bilingual highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs EEGs on inpatient and outpatient populations according to American Electroencephalographic Society minimum technical standards, including:
  • Clinical EEG
  • Pediatric EEG
  • EEG recording for suspected cerebral death
  • Performs EEG monitoring during surgical procedures and direct electroencephalography during epilepsy surgery.
  • Obtains tracings from chronically implanted electrodes.
  • Reviews and summarizes the patient's neurologic status and clinical history from charts, the patient, or other knowledgeable sources.
  • Explains EEG procedures in language appropriate to the patient's age and needs.
  • Adapts EEG methods and instrumentation based on age, history, and patient-specific needs.
  • Provides appropriate patient care for all age groups served.
  • Observes and documents clinical manifestations during seizures and other emergency situations.
  • Maintains EEG rooms and equipment in clean, functional condition.
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory equipment; reports major repair needs.
  • Prepares EEG tracings with complete technical information (montages, filters, sensitivity, etc.) and associated paperwork for physician interpretation.
  • Processes paperwork and computer functions for recordkeeping and billing.
  • Orders, stocks, and distributes laboratory supplies.
  • Retrieves previous EEG tracings and reports for reference.
  • Schedules inpatient and outpatient EEG appointments when needed.
  • Prepares equipment for sterilization.
  • Assists supervisors in training EEG technology students, residents, and visiting personnel.
  • Accepts on-call duties as assigned.
  • Participates in professional association activities, meetings, seminars, and in-service education to stay current with EEG technology developments.
  • Performs additional tasks as needed to support departmental efficiency.
  • Assists with phone coverage, filing, and other front-office duties.
