Under general supervision, the Electro-Mechanical Assembler performs a wide variety of electronic and electro-mechanical subassembly and assembly operations of a semi-skilled nature. This includes building and assembling simple units such as power supplies, modules, chassis drawers, cable harnesses, PC boards, electronic systems, and subassemblies. The role involves soldering and de-soldering through-hole and surface mount technology (SMT) components, as well as installing and/or removing discrete components like transformers, resistors, transistors, capacitors, and inductors onto printed circuit assemblies (PCA’s) and panels using both traditional soldering irons and hot air techniques. The assembler will follow production drawings, sample assemblies, and verbal instructions, applying established acceptable workmanship practices. They will interpret electromechanical schematics, drawings, work instructions, and bills of material to complete assigned assemblies. Tasks also include mounting components, connecting wires, positioning and aligning parts, and performing various joining operations such as crimping, staking, screwing, bolting, riveting, welding, soldering, cementing, and press fitting. The individual will use hand and small power tools, inspect parts, perform basic tests, and may engage in tasks like potting, encapsulating, sanding, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping, etching, impregnating, and color coding parts. They will adjust or trim materials to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics, perform hand soldering, and may work under a microscope. The position requires performing online go-no-go testing and inspection, troubleshooting and replacing defects, and reworking/repairing defective units. Adherence to safety procedures for flammable and hazardous chemicals and ensuring quality checks throughout the manufacturing process are essential. The assembler will record information on production records, logs, and report forms.
