About The Position

We seek a Electrification Controls Engineer based out of our office at 2151 East Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work from the aforementioned address and from home. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned address. Note, this position requires domestic and/or international travel up to 10% of the time. Develop innovative controls solutions in traction application electric machine and power electronics controls for real-world industry problems while balancing timing, technical, and cost constraints; Apply understanding of the steps and effort involved to mature new controls solutions from the concept phase through to production ready implementation; Use objective and measurable metrics to analyze multiple potential controls solutions and to determine the best solution to achieve given controls objectives; Communicate controls features at either a conceptual level or at a technically detailed level; Support the BorgWarner product development team with technical design analysis, trade-off studies, design reviews, and customer communications; Serve as the focal point for machine controls design technical discussions with cross-competency teams, management, and customers; Communicate existing and future controls capabilities and limitations to cross-competency teams, management, and customers; Assist in quoting engineering design and development efforts for new business opportunities, including the proper decomposition, allocation, and documentation of controls requirements; Serve as a representative for BorgWarner electrification controls at technical conferences; Drive quality controls software architecture and implementation concepts; Determine, document, and share best practice techniques and procedures and apply them to analysis, design, and experimental testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and 24 months of experience in job offered or related position developing and implementing electric machine and power electronics controls.
  • Required experience must include: Experience with vector control, direct torque control, discrete domain control system analysis and implementation; Experience using various PWM techniques and Observer Design Theory; Experience with MATLAB/Simulink modeling of electric machines, as well as, power electronics and their controls; Experience with physics-based modeling of electric machines and power electronics; Experience with electric machine and power electronics loss mechanisms; Experience applying the fundamentals of operation for surface and interior permanent magnet synchronous machines, AC induction machines, wound field synchronous machines, and power semiconductor devices (IGBT, MOSFET); Experience characterizing new electric machine designs, including experimental identification of flux-linkages, resistances, inductances, optimum operating points, and losses.
  • Note, this position requires domestic and/or international travel up to 10% of the time.
