The Master Electrician in a steel manufacturing environment is responsible for leading all aspects of electrical maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of industrial electrical systems, ensuring safe and continuous operation of heavy machinery, furnaces, rolling mills, cranes, conveyors, and other plant equipment. This role requires expert knowledge of high-voltage systems, PLCs, motors, and automation controls in a demanding industrial setting.

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems for heavy industrial equipment used in steel production.
  • Troubleshoot high-voltage (480V and above), low-voltage, and control systems, including PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, and automation equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and all company safety policies.
  • Lead and supervise a team of journeymen and apprentice electricians; delegate tasks and verify quality of work.
  • Develop and execute preventative maintenance plans to reduce downtime and increase equipment reliability.
  • Interpret and work from technical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Support operations by responding quickly to electrical emergencies or equipment failures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams on equipment upgrades and plant improvement projects.
  • Maintain documentation for repairs, maintenance logs, and equipment status reports.
  • Coordinate and oversee electrical contractors and ensure timely project completion.
  • Valid State Master Electrician License.
  • Minimum 7+ years of industrial electrical experience, with at least 3 in a steel mill or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), instrumentation, and motor control systems.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, melting furnaces, arc furnaces, rolling lines, and other steel plant systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety regulations, lockout/tagout, arc flash safety, and electrical codes.
  • Ability to use electrical diagnostic tools, meters, thermal cameras, and calibration equipment.
  • Solid leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work on-call, rotating shifts, weekends, or during plant outages.
