About The Position

The Electrician is responsible for surveying, adjusting, repairing, installing, modifying, debugging, and maintaining control systems, and electrical systems and equipment for production machinery and facilities. This role involves providing technical assistance on equipment and facilities projects, ensuring all work adheres to city, state, and national electrical codes, as well as customer and PCC specifications. Key objectives include maintaining, calibrating, designing, installing, and debugging control systems, troubleshooting electrical malfunctions, and managing electrical installations. The position also entails planning and designing complex instrumentation/electrical projects, offering technical assistance for new equipment selection, and collaborating with maintenance coordinators and engineers on technical issues. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, including adherence to plant rules, safe operation of tools, identifying and correcting safety problems, and potentially handling hazardous waste. The Electrician may also provide work direction, training, and supervision.

Requirements

  • Advanced electrical and instrumentation skills, as demonstrated by four years competent performance of all Electrical Technician duties.
  • Completion of a two-year electronics training program OR an equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.
  • A valid Oregon State Manufacturing Journeyman Plant Electricians License (or higher level license).
  • Valid driver's license in order to drive PCC vehicles.
  • Ability to apply city, state and national electrical codes.
  • Ability to distinguish between all colors.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on complex blueprints, drawings, Quality Control Manuals, Process Control Procedures and other technical manuals and specifications.
  • Ability to assist other departments through planning and technical assistance processes.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide working supervision, work direction, and/or training as assigned.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Completion of PCC's Forklift Driving Safety Certification (SSBO & LSBO only).
  • Completion of on-going state electrical licensing courses.
  • May be required to complete annual hazardous waste training, handle hazardous waste, complete weekly inspections, or manage areas that generate or handle hazardous waste.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a four-year electrical apprenticeship program is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of algebra preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Survey, adjust, repair, install, modify, debug and maintain control systems, and electrical systems and equipment for production equipment and facilities.
  • Provide technical assistance on equipment and facilities projects.
  • Complete projects in accordance with city, state and national electrical codes, customer and PCC specifications.
  • Maintain, calibrate, design, install, and debug control systems for all machines and equipment.
  • Regularly survey plant equipment controls and instrumentation, calibrate, install, debug, repair and/or adjust as necessary to meet process control specifications.
  • Fabricate, recertify and install thermocouples.
  • Maintain, install, repair and adjust electrical systems and equipment that provide power to production equipment and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions using electrical test instruments.
  • Install and maintain control panels, motors, motor controllers, transformers, wiring, switches, alarm systems and other equipment.
  • Program, install, troubleshoot and maintain programmable controllers.
  • Plan and design complex installations.
  • Provide technical assistance for the selection of new equipment.
  • Assist others, including maintenance coordinators and engineers with planning and technical issues.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems, correct when possible.
  • Handle hazardous waste (if required).
  • Complete logs and records.
  • Provide work direction, training, and working supervision as assigned.
  • Perform other tasks as directed.
  • Participate in Hazardous Materials Spill Response team (if required).
