About The Position

Performs duties and/or supervisor duties in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of complex commercial and industrial electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Detects difficult and complex causes of electrical failures in equipment and wiring; maintains and repairs variable frequency electrical motor drives; maintains and repairs generators, switchgear, transformers, motors, relays, switches, fixtures, high and low voltage feeder circuits and cables, and various other electrical equipment and electronic devices. Interprets and prepares technical sketches for various electrical systems; insures compliance with electrical codes; performs calculations for electrical layouts and installations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles of electricity.
  • Knowledge of the functions and operations of commercial and industrial electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge of the materials and tools used in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical industry standards.
  • Knowledge of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Skill in the use and care of electrical testing, diagnostic and repair equipment.
  • Ability to distinguish differences in wire, cable colors, sizes, and types.
  • Ability and willingness to be in an on-call status and respond to call outs, working non-standard duty hours, and rotating shifts that include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and diagrams.
  • Ability to operate a standard motor vehicle safely.
  • Ability to operate basic computer functions (email, digital time card, data entry, and others.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
  • Three years of experience as an electrician;
  • OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, power appliances, light machinery and electrical circuits.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs complex electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Installs electrical fixtures and appliances.
  • Performs electrical tasks during construction projects.
  • Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits using volt/ohm meter, infrared camera, and other related equipment.
  • Performs electrical work on photoelectric cells, time clocks, electrical heaters, air conditioners, emergency generator units, air compressors, lighting controls, and other related electrical devices.
  • Troubleshoots electrical related issues.
  • Makes emergency repairs to elevators, emergency generators, and other electrical apparatus, appliances and equipment.
  • Maintains and tracks inventory valued up to $10,000.00
  • Uses a computerized management system to keep records of operating conditions and repairs to mechanical equipment.
  • Acts as a lead worker of subordinate staff.
  • Drives a motor vehicle to and from work sites; loads and unloads tools and equipment.
  • Cleans work site upon work completion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
