Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Supervising electrician, performs journey level electrical installations, maintenance and repair within the buildings, grounds and structures of the University and other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma and journey-level Electrician skills similar to that acquired through the completion of an Electrician apprenticeship program required.
  • Valid California driver's license required.
  • Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.
  • The ideal candidate possesses strong knowledge of National and California Electrical Codes and demonstrates the ability to read, interpret, and work from plans and drawings.
  • They bring general expertise in electrical tools, safety practices, installation, and maintenance, along with the capability to direct the work of unskilled helpers.
  • The candidate can read, write, and perform essential arithmetic functions, and has the physical strength required for lifting and carrying loads (50 lbs. independently and up to 100 lbs. with assistance), as well as for standing, climbing, crawling, and walking as needed for the job.
  • They are able to learn and effectively use a sophisticated computerized work system appropriate to the position.
  • A solid work history marked by personal integrity is essential, as is adherence to all University and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines, including those related to safety, civility, while consistently maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
  • CSULB will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
  • Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
  • As of January 1, 2022 the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, installs, maintains and Repairs electric lights, motors, heaters.
  • Consults and works with other trade persons.
  • Makes rough sketches and estimates the cost of minor electrical installations.
  • Keeps records and writes reports.
  • Uses knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment of the trade in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, building codes and safety orders in daily performance of duties.
  • Performs High Voltage Maintenance on Transformers, switchboards.
