Electrician Riegelwood, NC West Fraser is a diversified North American wood products company producing southern yellow pine lumber and wood chips across the Southern US and Western Canada. This position provides planning and organizational support for the Maintenance and Operations Department. Job Functions: The mill Electrician is responsible for repairs, maintenance, and PM's to the electronic components of the mill, including responsibility for various process quality control checks in the green end of the facility. The position is responsible for running all electrical mill trouble calls millwide in addition to performing the lumber checks specified below at frequent intervals throughout the shift. The tech has responsibility for ensuring all lumber sizing out of each machine is on target, and that sawmill trim, slash and reman percentages are within targets specified. The position is expected to be able to successfully navigate through controls, equipment, and optimization-related issues with the appropriate vendors (USNR, Comact, Porter, Baxley, etc.). The position is required to perform any general mechanical maintenance work or assistance, in addition to any production-related tasks as assigned by the shift or department supervision. The position should know and understand PLC logic, drive-related issues, and other electronics-related concerns that will impact the mill. The PQC/Electrical Technician will monitor mechanical and electrical operating systems for proper performance and make necessary parameter changes and adjustments. The position will work closely with the Electrical and Quality Control Supervision to ensure optimum utilization of set works and optimization systems. The position will also assist in new installations as necessary. Throughout the course of the shift, the position is expected to perform PQC checks and log on PQC shift report, which is submitted to the Shift Supervisor, and Sawmill QC Supervisor upon the conclusion of the shift.

Requirements

  • Ability to be self-motivated, work unsupervised, and show initiative to expand knowledge of control systems
  • Must be able to understand and satisfactorily complete WO's, PM's, and other tasks in a timely manner while following all Safety Requirements and Lock-Out Procedures
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime hours
  • Must be physically capable of bending, reaching, lifting, and able to work in extreme environments, (hot, cold, rain, snow)
  • Must have a good understanding of all mill equipment and how it affects yield, recovery, and mix
  • Must be able to use electronic test equipment (meters, diddle box, etc.)
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair DC drives, AC inverters, PLC controls, and hardware
  • Must be able to read complex electrical schematics and blueprints
  • Must meet minimum testing standards for Maintenance
  • Must successfully complete company-required training courses
  • Must have a good working knowledge of PC's and PLC's
  • 2-years experience or more in electrical troubleshooting and repair

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably have a 2-year degree in Electrical/Electronics or equivalent electrical/electronic courses
