DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES The Electrician Journeyman will be responsible for all the duties listed but not limited to the following: perform electrical work at the journeyman's level while installing, maintaining, altering and repairing of electrical systems and equipment. This includes repairing of electrical wiring and fixtures. The Electrician will ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes, may install or service lights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems and will work under the general supervision of an Electrician foreman, and/or the Electrician Sub-Foreman, or the Division Director of Facilities Management. Plan, layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Construct or fabricate parts, using hand tools, according to specifications. Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects. Troubleshoot electrical circuit faults (Power: Motors & Power Circuits). Repair power circuits and repair or replace motors (Replace broken & burned-out receptacles, switches, circuit breakers & fuses). Troubleshoot electrical control circuits (PLC controls, HVAC Systems & VFD) Troubleshoot fire alarm systems, smoke & heat detectors, home and speakers. Perform new electrical construction & renovation (Layout and install power & lighting circuits). Layout and install data & phone conduits (Surface & Recessed). Order supplies as needed through Foreman for electrical construction & maintenance.
