About The Position

This position involves determining the routing of wires and conduits, and the precise location and installation methods for various electrical units such as switches, outlets, junction boxes, rectifiers, transformers, and generators. The work is guided by trade practices, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and state, municipal, and underwriters' specifications, codes, and ordinances. The role requires assessing the need for repair or replacement, determining the safest methods for restoring interrupted service, and identifying necessary scaffolding. Responsibilities include computing wire gauge, power, and load limit requirements using charts and handbooks, and installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of electrical equipment, including large three-phase motors, transformer banks, welding generators, and complex control panels. The electrician will use precision measuring devices to test circuits, perform complete rebuilding and rewinding of motors and generators, and execute repair and installation work on large cables, including splicing and insulating high voltage taps. Troubleshooting on hot circuits is also a key aspect. The role may require certification under Federal, State, or Local Codes and Ordinances. Additionally, the position involves installing, testing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining conventional electronic controls, devices, and systems, as well as performing mechanical operations for the dismantling, repair, assembly, and installation of electrical units. The individual may assist other Electrician Maintenance roles and operate electronic data entry, storage, processing, and/or retrieval equipment.

Requirements

  • State of Texas Journeyman Electrical License.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing of electrical systems and components.
  • Experience using the National Electrical Code.
  • Experience with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E.
  • Experience Reading Electrical Schematics and Blueprints.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an industrial facility.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing High voltage systems such as 5KV.
  • OSHA electrical safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Determines routing of wires and conduits and determines location and method of installing such electrical units as switches, outlets, junction boxes, rectifiers, transformers and generators on electrical parts of all building facilities branch circuits feeding machine tools and other fixed equipment.
  • Installations shall be guided by trade practice, blueprints, wiring diagrams and state, municipal and underwriters' specifications, codes and ordinances.
  • Determines advisability or need for repair or replacement with a new unit, best and safest method of restoring interrupted service and necessity and type of scaffolding to use.
  • Computes wire gauge, power and load limit requirements when this information is not furnished using charts and handbooks considering such factors as amperage, load and distance to power supply.
  • Installs, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains such equipment as large three phase motors, transformer banks, welding generators, panels having several circuits involving interlocking switches, relays, and/or time controls, new safety devices, power panels, power sub-stations, and electrical units in electrically powered, mobile equipment.
  • Uses precision measuring devices and instruments, to check or test circuits for overload and circuit amplitude.
  • Does complete rebuilding and rewinding of motors and generators.
  • Does repair and installation work on large cables such as splicing, tapping, and insulating a "T" high voltage tap in 500,000 circular mill wire.
  • Troubleshoots on hot circuits.
  • May be required to be certified under Federal, State, or Local Codes and Ordinances.
  • Installs, tests, repairs, troubleshoots and performs maintenance and repair of conventional electronic controls, devices any systems.
  • Performs mechanical operations necessary to the dismantling, disassembly, repair, assembly and installation of electrical units.
  • May assist the Electronics Electrician - Maintenance "A" and the Electrician Maintenance "A" - R & A as required.
  • May be required to operate electronic data entry, storage, processing, and/or retrieval equipment as a routine part of accomplishing their normal job assignments.
