About The Position

The Electrician II (non-certified) is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and repairing all types of electrical equipment, motors, and motor controls to include those of industrial and general lighting fixtures and connections. The Electrician II (non-certified) is responsible for assisting the other Electrical Technicians, Electrical Lead Technicians and or the Electrical Supervisor with installations and repairs. The electrician II will run conduit, pull wire, mount electrical boxes, and connect switches and receptacles as needed. Troubleshoot existing circuits for problems and repairs. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. 2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Electrical Lead technician and/or Electrical Supervisor. 3. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of the Electrical field. 4. Knowledge of the tools of the electrical trade. 5. Knowledge and experience with the installation, repair, and maintenance of electric power, lighting lines, cables, and associated parts of circuits, both single-phase and three-phase. 6. Knowledge and experience with running conduit, pulling wire and installing electrical circuits. 7. Performs service calls and work orders submitted by students, faculty, staff, and departments within the university to include maintaining records, and performs preventative maintenance. 8. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope. 9. Troubleshoots and diagnoses electric systems to detect and repair functions following detailed operational and maintenance procedures. 10. Troubleshoots electrical system problems following detailed operational and maintenance procedures. 11. Ensures replacement parts and equipment meet specifications required to energize items being repaired or replaced. 12. Assists in the planning of new of modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. 13. Performs periodic tests, detailed inspections, and preventative maintenance of electrical systems and equipment used in the facilities. 14. Performs corrective maintenance and repairs of discrepancies found during periodic tests/ inspections of systems/ equipment and ensures proper functioning after completing maintenance. 15. Maintains records of inspections and maintenance performed by completing daily work completion logs. 16. Follows all relevant safety codes and guidelines while installing and servicing of electrical equipment and performing the job duties and responsibilities of an Electrician II. 17. Must follow safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required while performing the job duties and responsibilities of an Electrician II (Noncertified). This includes but is not limited to, safety glasses, face shields, hard hats, safety shoes, insulating (rubber) gloves with leather protectors, insulating sleeves, harness, and flame-resistant (FR) clothing. Always adhere to job-specific safety protocols. 18. Might use a harness while on a ladder or lift to perform the job duties and responsibilities of an Electrician Helper. 19. Keeps current of changes in operational procedures, new equipment, and other related equipment. 20. Works in conjunction with other trades, staff personnel in support of daily job tasks. 21. Reports any problems, unusual conditions, or deficiencies and takes appropriate actions. 22. Performs installation and maintenance of existing electrical systems, new construction, and special events. 23. Must be available on an “On Call” basis and is required to respond to emergency calls, shift work, over time, and odd hours to support the University needs. 24. Cleans and maintains tools and performs routine maintenance on special equipment used in electrician’s work. 25. Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials. 26. Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment. 27. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. 28. Correct Unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to Supervisor immediately. 29. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. 30. Performs other duties as assigned. 31. Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks. 32. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks. 33. W orks effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of related experience required, or approximately 1-3 years of related experience in the electrical trade with and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to understand and follow instructions, and work under limited supervision.
  • Must be able to work well with the public and co-worker’s ad present a positive attitude.
  • Clean and professional appearance.
  • Must be courteous, detailed oriented, self-motivated, diligent, trustworthy, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform duties of the Electrical trade in typical Virginia climate.
  • This position might require the use and operation of aerial lifts or be willing and able to obtain aerial lift certifications, operate, and work from various aerial lifts and heights.
  • Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it.
  • Must be detailed oriented, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communications skills.
  • Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
  • Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours.
