About The Position

Basic Purpose and Function: Installs and repairs wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard ship and in shipyard facilities, following blueprints and wiring diagrams. Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties): Pulls fasteners and cables through cableways and devices, such as connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators and power panels. Strips insulation from wire ends and solders ends to terminals using stripping pliers and soldering iron. Connects power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control and other electronic equipment. Tests electrical characteristics, such as voltage, resistance keep in circuits using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators. Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes. Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and/or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustments or repairs, and to ensures compliance with codes. Diagnoses malfunctioning systems or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Works from ladders, scaffolds, or Aerial Work Platform (AWP) to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures. Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Assembles, installs, tests, and/or maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Pulls, routes, and bands cables. Other duties may be assigned. Understand and Follow Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO) procedures. Understand and follow Work Authorization (WAF) process. Must follow all Hot Work procedures.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position will require accessing the ship with the capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Applicant must be able to:
Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, determine operating error root cause, and fix the error.
Repair controllers, internal components and/or systems using job specific tools.
Identifies complex problems, and review related information to develop, evaluate, and implement solutions.
Observe gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure machines are functioning properly.
Determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
See, discriminate, and interpret details at a close range.
Visually discriminate color, specifically, match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
Understand electrical machines and tools, including their use, repair, and maintenance.
Understand various power applications and how to safely connect equipment.
Understand the various voltages & amperages used specifically in marine settings.
Understand and be able to work with both Alternating Current and Direct Current systems.
Work at all height levels (high and low).
Work in confined and enclosed spaces.
Work in inclement weather conditions.
Work non-standard work hours, as required.
Applicants with 3+ years of maritime electrical experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
General knowledge of blueprints preferred.
Knowledge of electrical machines and tools, including their use, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote security for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Candidates must be able to pass a qualification test prior to being considered for hire.
Should have a working knowledge of the Naval Sea Systems (NAVSEA) Standard Items.
Working knowledge of local NAVSEA Standard Items, specifically Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC).

Applicants with 3+ years of maritime electrical experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
