Summary The Electrical Lead serves as a electrician within the Building Maintenance unit of Facilities Services at UCCS. This position supports the university’s mission by ensuring safe, efficient, and code-compliant electrical systems across campus buildings. Responsibilities include performing complex electrical maintenance and repairs, supporting construction projects, and managing preventative maintenance programs. The role interacts with campus departments, contractors, and regulatory bodies to maintain high service standards and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Must possess Journeyman Electrical license at time of hire.
  • Must demonstrate experience in electrical system maintenance, installation, and repair.
  • Must possess proven track record in electrical troubleshooting and service work.
  • Must have ability to communicate effectively within the facilities department and campus stakeholders to understand needs, recommend solutions, coordinate access and scheduling ensuring customer satisfaction and efficient service delivery.
  • Must possess ability to read electrical prints and identify all components of a commercial building electrical system.
  • Must possess and have ability to maintain a valid driver’s license at time of hire.
  • Must possess ability to complete physical components of the job, including ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Have ability to obtain State of Colorado Master Electrical license within 6 months of hire date is highly desired.
  • Experience with WebTMA or similar work order systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with APPA standards and energy conservation practices is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting construction projects and reviewing technical documents is highly desired to be successful in this role.
  • Experience in identifying deferred maintenance priorities and communicating those needs clearly is preferred.
  • Experience with lighting control systems and low voltage controls is highly desirable.
  • NICET certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience with conveyance systems maintenance and reporting requirements is highly desirable.
  • Experience training and mentoring others is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical and Lighting Maintenance & Repair Perform electrical and lighting maintenance on electrical systems rated from 480V to low voltage for campus buildings.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including lighting, electrical panels, equipment power feeds, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal codes.
  • Respond to Ad Hoc work orders and make appropriate comments detailing work completed to address requests.
  • Assist Manager with contractor management for electrical related repairs and projects and provide initial troubleshooting for outsourced repairs.
  • Monitor condition of exterior lighting systems across campus and make repairs as necessary.
  • Operate all tools and equipment required to complete daily tasks.
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs and related equipment inventory in accordance with department expectations and code requirements to ensure uninterrupted service for all campus electrical systems.
  • Complete preventative maintenance work orders in WebTMA, make appropriate comments detailing the work completed, and accurately track costs associated with equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Collaborate with Manager to plan, coordinate, and complete repairs based on priority and condition assessments.
  • Assist with campus building audits in support of the State of Colorado Controlled Maintenance program.
  • Work with Planning, Design, and Construction teams to review construction documents and provide feedback on electrical systems.
  • Complete small project work to include but not limited to the modification or elimination of existing electrical infrastructure and installation of new electrical infrastructure.
  • Support commissioning, warranty processes, and equipment selection as subject matter expert.
  • Attend yearly training and meetings required by the department.
  • Maintain Electrical license.
  • Assist with equipment data entry within WebTMA.
  • Operate snow removal equipment and apply de-icing materials as needed.
  • Ensure safe access to campus facilities during winter weather events.
  • Perform additional duties related to facilities maintenance and operations in support of campus needs as required.
