About The Position

Maverick Power is seeking an Electrical Test Technician to inspect, test, and verify low- and medium-voltage switchgear before it leaves our facility. This role ensures all products meet specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements. You will operate test instruments, validate protective relays, and document all results. Limited supervision is provided, and attention to detail is critical.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience testing low- and medium-voltage switchgear in a factory or manufacturing environment or relevant military experience.
  • Proficiency with testing instruments: relay test sets, megger, hipot tester, multimeter, timing test sets, and secondary/primary injection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, and project specifications.
  • Strong documentation skills; attention to detail for accurate test records.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain production/test schedules.
  • Understanding of relevant codes and safety standards (NEC, NFPA, OSHA, NETA).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with protective relay brands (SEL, ABB, Schneider, Siemens etc.) and microprocessor-based relays.
  • Experience with factory pre-shipment commissioning, QA/QC, or manufacturing testing.
  • Knowledge of primary and secondary injection testing, transformer testing, cable testing, and switchgear coordination studies.
  • Certifications: NETA, OSHA, NFPA arc-flash / PPE training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-shipment testing of MV/LV switchgear, protective relays, breakers, panelboards, ATS, and associated control/communication systems.
  • Execute testing procedures including but not limited to: Relay functional and coordination testing Insulation resistance (megger) and dielectric withstand (hipot) Contact resistance, timing, and trip testing Control and communication circuit verification
  • Validate all equipment against project specifications, drawings, and one-line schematics.
  • Maintain organized test documentation for each project, including reports, drawings, and photos.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to reduce test time, improve efficiency, and enhance quality.
  • Troubleshoot and report anomalies; coordinate with engineering for corrective action if defects or non-conformances are found.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, PPE, and adherence to relevant standards (NEC, NFPA, OSHA, NETA).
  • Assist in creating and updating test procedures, checklists, and SOPs for factory testing.
  • Performs other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.
