About The Position

The Electrical Technician oversees and executes electrical and automation installations for projects, ensuring systems are designed, commissioned, and maintained to industry standards as well as troubleshooting and repairs for existing systems. This role manages project delivery, collaborates with cross-functional teams, interprets technical drawings, and provides hands-on troubleshooting. The technician ensures compliance with NEC, API, IEC, and ISA standards, performs preventive and emergency maintenance, and supports upgrades and modifications to enhance operational reliability and safety.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in oil & gas operations
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician preferred
  • Strong decision-making, independent work, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in power distribution systems (480V–15kV), motor control centers (MCCs), PLC panels, and control systems

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise electrical and automation installation and commissioning activities for oil and gas projects.
  • Oversee the design, installation, and testing of power distribution systems (480V–15kV), motor control centers (MCCs), PLC panels, and control systems.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and resources to ensure on-time and within-budget completion.
  • Interface with engineering, operations, and construction teams to align project objectives and deliverables.
  • Review and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings, one-line diagrams, and control logic schematics.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting support for PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, instrumentation loops, and communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).
  • Ensure installations meet NEC, API, IEC, and ISA standards relevant to hazardous (classified) areas.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings, progress reporting, and project close-out documentation.
  • Perform scheduled inspections, testing, and maintenance on electrical systems, including switchgear, MCCs, transformers, VFDs, and lighting.
  • Identify and repair electrical faults, overheating issues, grounding problems, and insulation breakdowns.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance to reduce equipment downtime and extend asset life.
  • Maintain power distribution and grounding systems in compliance with NEC and company standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical issues in motors, pumps, compressors, PLC systems, and process equipment.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters, meggers, and thermal imaging cameras to locate faults.
  • Perform emergency repairs during unplanned shutdowns and restore systems to full operation.
  • Ensure all work meets Class I, Division 1/2 or Zone 0–2 hazardous area electrical standards.
  • Work with engineers and supervisors to support equipment upgrades, retrofits, and control modifications.
