About The Position

Alta Forest Products, in collaboration with Itochu Building Products, is the world’s largest producer of wood fence boards. Our sawmills operate with advanced optimization systems, high-speed production lines, and a commitment to zero wood waste. As the Electrical Supervisor at our sawmill, you will lead a team of union electricians responsible for maintaining and improving the electrical and control systems that keep our mill running. From troubleshooting high-voltage equipment to supporting PLC-driven optimization systems, you will play a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient mill operations. You will coordinate daily work, support preventive and predictive maintenance, and partner closely with production leadership to minimize downtime. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to work effectively within a union environment. Requirements

  • 5+ years of industrial electrical experience
  • Journey-level electrician certification or equivalent required.
  • Strong understanding of NEC, OSHA, and LOTO procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Demonstrated planning, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop skilled trades personnel.
  • Proven track record of meeting KPIs and maintenance targets.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient with CMMS systems and Microsoft® Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supervising electrical or maintenance teams in manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, especially in heavy-equipment environments.
  • Work confidently with PLC logic, optimization systems, and automated sawmill controls.
  • Leverage technology for diagnostics, maintenance planning, and reporting.
  • Maintain a strong drive for safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Sawmill or heavy manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a union environment is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team of union electricians in a high-volume sawmill environment.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with NEC, OSHA, mill safety rules, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems on saw lines, conveyors, Debarker, chippers, and optimization equipment.
  • Diagnose issues involving PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and industrial automation.
  • Prioritize and assign work orders to maintain equipment uptime and production flow.
  • Coordinate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to plan and execute repairs and upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of electrical systems, PM tasks, and equipment history.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for electrical failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and testing of new mill equipment and control systems.
  • Manage inventory of electrical parts, tools, and critical spares.
  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and maintain positive labor relations.
  • Participate in capital project planning and provide technical guidance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
