About The Position

We are hiring a hands-on Service Technician to assist with maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of transformers and switchgear equipment in Commerce City, Colorado. This role supports both shop-based service operations and field service assignments involving electrical power distribution equipment. In this position, you will perform a variety of mechanical and electrical service tasks including inspections, component replacements, and basic diagnostic testing. Work will take place at the Commerce City service facility as well as customer locations when required. This opportunity is ideal for technicians who want to develop their expertise in transformer maintenance, electrical equipment repair, and industrial field service operations within a structured technical environment. Travel may account for approximately 35% of assignments, with company-provided hotel accommodations, per diem allowances, and fuel coverage during field service visits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in shop work, equipment maintenance, or manufacturing environments
  • Basic understanding of electrical equipment or strong willingness to learn technical systems
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing structures or accessing transformer tanks
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong troubleshooting ability and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with transformers, switchgear, or power distribution equipment
  • Background in welding, fabrication, or industrial painting
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • First Aid / CPR / AED training
  • Forklift certification or experience with industrial material-handling equipment

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair and maintenance work on transformers and switchgear equipment at the Commerce City facility and at customer locations
  • Conduct visual and mechanical inspections to identify equipment wear, damage, or electrical faults
  • Replace or service transformer components including bushings, gaskets, and tap changer assemblies under supervision
  • Assist with transformer oil servicing, including draining, filtering, and refilling insulating oil systems
  • Perform entry-level diagnostic testing such as insulation resistance and transformer turns ratio testing
  • Prepare transformer surfaces for finishing by cleaning, sanding, or priming equipment before painting
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, including work orders, parts usage, and labor tracking
  • Safely operate forklifts and material-handling equipment during equipment movement and setup
  • Assist with additional technical tasks such as welding, fabrication, or industrial painting when qualified
  • Drive company vehicles and trailers for field assignments and equipment transport
  • Follow all safety procedures, environmental containment policies, and operational standards
  • Communicate service findings and job progress clearly with supervisors, coworkers, and customers
