About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining and improving the reliability of our manufacturing operations by eliminating production limiting failures from our process and increasing the life of our assets. The successful candidate will be expected to perform in a goal-oriented environment to deliver targeted results in the areas of safety, employee engagement, and Reliability Excellence. This position leads efforts in maintaining and troubleshooting problems with mill-wide equipment and systems and will establish root cause of failures. The expectation is to provide ongoing improvements in mill-wide reliability by improving and sustaining the maintenance systems and programs. The incumbent must provide effective planning to achieve timely repairs. The successful candidate will conduct 1-1s with employees to provide guidance and development.

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in operations, maintenance, and/or engineering in a paper manufacturing environment is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • IP ME certification of green or black belt is required; additional lean/six sigma certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Technically Qualified and knowledgeable to provide Mill-Wide Leadership for the Electric Motor Reliability Program
  • Responsible for the Big Picture relating to the mill’s position versus IP’s GMS Motor related expectations
  • Authors and maintains the Motor Reliability Gap Plan and / or Deliberate Improvement Plan(s)
  • Spends between 50% and 75% of work time focused on electric motor improvement and sustainability
  • Works with all areas of the mill to ensure that preventative and predictive plans are executed for electric motor assets
  • Acts as a training resource for the mill with new or on-boarding E&I technicians
  • Ensures that new and rebuilt motor quality for the facility is maintained and all repair and testing specification requirements are met
  • Motor Repair Shop Visits and input to the Repair Shop PIAP (Prioritized Improvement Action Plan)
  • Accountable that Incoming Motor Inspections and testing is conducted per policy
  • Motor Repair Report Review and retention
  • Proper Motor Storage conditions are maintained on the mill site or vendor supplied storage
  • Participates and communicates the results of Repaired Motor Quality Teardowns
  • Large and Critical Motor Assembly Witness and Factory Acceptance
  • Spare Motor Contingency Planning
  • Maintain Repair and testing Information in applicable databases
  • Audits Motor Protection Programs Mill Wide
  • Participation in semiannual Mill Element Leader Conference Calls
  • Repaired Motor Quality Teardowns (small motors) - - minimum of 1 teardown per year
  • Repair Shop Large Motor witness Assembly
  • Mill Motor Testing Program Leadership
  • Works with area MWS coordinators to establish and monitor motor related basic care
  • Approver / Endorser on all applicable capital projects for the mill to ensure that electric motor reliability guidelines are followed
  • Represents the mill and interfaces with project engineers in all motor related capital projects.
  • Ensures that motor related information is transferred to the mill in all new motor installations
  • Participates in motor related RCFA investigations and ensures that action plans are integrated into the mill MWS
  • Tracks and reports motor performance and spending
  • Works with OEM suppliers to create specific motor PMs
  • Develops specific vendor qualifications for onsite motor contracted service
  • The Element Leader is responsible and knowledgeable of all motor related specifications and ensures compliance for the mill
  • Manages the mill Motor Related Leading and Lagging indicators
  • Represents mill with repair shop TCO approval and implementation
  • Review all “Motor Replacement/Installation” sheets and updates the motor database
  • Determines motor Warranty Claims
