What is the role? This role is responsible for the precise measurement of ethane quality and volume at custody transfer points between upstream suppliers and the Shell Polymers Monaca facility. In addition to measurement, the position performs I&E maintenance and troubleshooting, supports online analyzers, executes mechanical tasks, and completes operator duties to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable pipeline operations. The work follows Goal Zero, AMS/ME, PCD, and SPLC Inspection & Maintenance Manual requirements. What you’ll be doing Measurement & Custody Transfer Measurement & Proving: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Coriolis flow meters and liquid provers (piston/sphere) to ensure high‑accuracy mass and volume at custody transfer points. Calibration & Verification: Perform routine calibration, configuration, and inspection of pressure, temperature, and differential transmitters; flow computers; and associated instrumentation. Sampling & Quality Analysis: Collect spot and composite ethane samples and verify product quality using densitometers, pycnometers, and related equipment. EFM/SCADA: Diagnose and resolve issues with Electronic Flow Measurement (EFM) systems, RTUs, SCADA communications, and automated valve/actuator control systems. Witnessing & Assurance: Witness third‑party meter performance verifications; audit custody transfer data; assist in resolving volumetric/quality discrepancies. Ticketing & Records: Maintain accurate job tickets, proving reports, calibration records, and measurement logs to support monthly pipeline material balance and regulatory reporting (DOT/PHMSA). Analyzer Responsibilities Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of online process analyzers for ethane quality monitoring. Replace/repair analytical components (sensors, sample systems, filters); assist with analyzer startup/shutdown and operational checks. I&E Maintenance Execution (SPLC Standards) Plan & Execute Work: Schedule and perform regulatory inspections, preventative maintenance, and reactive/breakdown maintenance across instrumentation and electrical assets per the SPLC Electrical Inspection & Maintenance Manual. Follow Processes: Adhere to Goal Zero; AMS/ME maintenance execution processes; Process Control Domain (PCD) requirements. SAP S/4 Work Management: Use SAP S‑4 PM notifications and work orders to plan, prioritize, execute, and close work on schedule; manage reactive requests and backlog health. Own Assigned Jobs: Determine materials/equipment, identify and communicate required downtime, coordinate outside contractors/specialty services, and ensure readiness of resources. Install/Troubleshoot/Repair: Perform installation, inspection, calibration, and repair of instruments and electrical equipment across Equipment includes (not limited to): motors; electrical systems; 480vac to 24 VDC instrumentation; PLCs and smart devices; control valves; motor controls; SCADA equipment; analyzers; communications; fire & gas detection; generators; transformers; overcurrent protection; level/pressure/temperature transmitters; dead‑weight testers; multimeters; digital gauges/thermometers; sampling systems. Standards & Specs: Ensure all installations and repairs meet manufacturer specifications and SPLC standards. Drawings & Devices: Interpret P&IDs, station drawings, and Protective & Control Devices (P&CD) drawings; serve as a resource on equipment parameters, flow rates, and pressure ratings. Third‑Party Oversight: Oversee contractors to ensure safe execution and compliance with regulations and manufacturer specifications. Documentation: Complete all required paperwork for regulatory inspections and maintenance activities. Pipeline Operations & Mechanical Conduct facility rounds, safety checks, and station inspections; operate block valves, MOVs, isolation equipment; support product movement and line-ups. Check block and bleeds, greasing and sealing valves, and valve repair. Assist with pigging operations (setup, launch, receive, documentation). Respond to abnormal operating conditions (AOCs), alarms, and emergency call-outs. Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement Maintain compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations; Operator Qualification (OQ), Proficiency Demonstration Process(PDP), and HSSE training/standards; Conduct and document Job Hazard Analyses (JHA); apply LOTO and work permitting (Permit Vision ePTW) Demonstrate strong process discipline and clear communication at all levels of the organization. Assess customer/stakeholder needs daily; ensure equipment is maintained per approved R&I plans and resources are aligned. Special Challenges Large geographic coverage and a wide range of equipment; requires up‑front planning for safe, timely execution. Expected to achieve Electrical Technician proficiency within a reasonable period (experience‑dependent); then develop secondary skills to support team coverage and personal growth. Work often performed in remote locations with limited support; heights >6 ft.
