About The Position

The University of Alaska Fairbanks, in partnership with the Directorate of Public Works at FortWainwright, is seeking a full-time, term funded Electrical Maintenance Technician (CT2) to join our skilled team. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and rapid response multiple craft projects across Fort Wainwright facilities. The technician will assist with inspections, construction, and general facility upkeep while adhering to strict safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This role supports safe, efficient, and sustainable facility operations within a military environment under the UAF Environmental Community Partnership. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and meet all military installation requirements.This Carpentry position is part of the Environmental Community Partnership between the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at Fort Wainwright. The role supports facility operations by performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure within a military environment. The position helps maintain critical facility systems contributing to a safe and resilient community. To thrive in this role, applicants should have hands-on experience in construction, maintenance, or related fields, with a strong commitment to safety and attention to detail. Successful candidates will be able to work independently and collaboratively, effectively prioritize tasks, and communicate clearly with supervisors and team members. Physical stamina and the ability to handle tools and equipment safely are essential. A willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic military facility environment will help ensure ongoing success.

Requirements

  • Journeyman level or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; at least 3 years experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronics work.
  • Knowledge of basic construction experience
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, night vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus environment
  • Quality customer service skills.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and work safely in various environments, including areas with potential hazardous materials.
  • A valid Alaska driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one) and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.
  • Ability to travel to remote field locations.
  • Candidates must be U.S. citizens and meet all military installation requirements.
  • Ability to obtain military installation access clearance are required.
