Electrical Line Worker Intern Job Details This position provides interns exposure to industry fundamentals through field and office instruction, job shadowing, and closely supervised field activities. Safety awareness and safe work practices are prioritized throughout the program. Under direct supervision, interns assist and learn from experienced line workers while developing basic knowledge of electric distribution systems, tools, materials, and safety procedures. This is a temporary, training-focused position designed to support career exploration and skill development. Interns perform limited, non-hazardous tasks and are not assigned the full responsibilities of a journeyman or apprentice line worker. This is a part-time position (15–20 hours per week, up to 80 hours per month) with a flexible schedule within standard business hours (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday) to accommodate academic and other commitments. Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) is more than a non-profit, customer-owned, at-cost electric utility. Founded in 1938, NEC serves over 19,000 electric meters across eight South Texas counties near the beautiful Texas Gulf Coast. NEC is a pioneering cooperative in the industry, becoming the first electric cooperative to voluntarily deregulate in 2005. Today, NEC Retail serves over 32,000 consumers across Texas, offering competitive electric service. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, currently enrolled in an accredited electrical line worker program or a related field.
  • Valid Commercial Class A Driver's License, or documentation demonstrating that one will be obtained within 90 days.
  • Basic understanding of the industry or ability to eagerly learn. Previous experience working outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Utilize web-based platforms, applications, time tracking systems, email software such as MS outlook, and utility specific work and service order applications.
  • CPR & First Aid Certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and assist line crews with basic tasks related to electric distribution and maintenance
  • Participate in safety training, tailboard meetings, and job briefings
  • Learn proper use and care of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Assist with material handling, equipment staging, and worksite preparation
