About The Position

Astrobotic is at the forefront of advancing space exploration and technology development. Our expertise spans from lunar rovers, landers, and infrastructure to spacecraft navigation, machine vision, and computing systems for in-space robotic applications. To date, the company has been contracted for two lunar missions and has won more than 60 National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Defense (DoD), and commercial technology contracts worth more than $600 million. We recently launched and operated the first American lunar lander mission since the Apollo Program. Beyond helping lead America back to the Moon, Astrobotic developed and operates reusable vertical takeoff, vertical landing (VTVL) rockets and continues to advance next-generation VTVL capabilities and advanced rocket engines. Established in 2007, Astrobotic is headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, with a propulsion and test campus in Mojave, CA. Astrobotic Technology wants you to support the integration and testing of its Lunar Landers. As a member of the Electrical Integration and Test (EI&T) team, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of integration and test activities ranging from board-level to full system-level campaigns. Working with the EI&T Lead Engineer, you will implement the full engineering development cycle to ensure overall spacecraft readiness prior to launch. Note: This position may be filled at multiple levels, including I, II, or III depending on the candidate's experience.

  • Experience designing electrical test fixturing or ground support equipment.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in electromechanical systems including sensors, actuators, and control systems.
  • Experience creating integration sequences, procedures, and methodologies to support complex integration processes.
  • Experience with integration and test campaigns for a spacecraft/satellite project.
  • Knowledge of avionics manufacturing processes, such as machining operations, harness fabrication, and inspection processes.
  • Knowledge of the spaceflight electronic design and development process.
  • Adaptable to startup environment, able to self-start with minimal guidance.
  • Experience in a 100K or ISO 8 class cleanroom environment.
  • IPC-A-610 or IPC-A-620 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct integration and testing of flight and non-flight electrical systems at the component, subsystem, and spacecraft level.
  • Write test plans and procedures to verify functionality of spacecraft components and subsystems responsible for guidance, navigation and control (GNC), RF communications, power distribution, and thermal and propulsion control.
  • Automate test execution and data collection using Python and LabVIEW.
  • Lead electrical test campaigns by running test readiness reviews, anomaly response teams, and post-test reviews.
  • Design electrical test fixturing and ground support equipment for both component and system-level testing.
  • Work with external test facilities to plan and perform off-site testing, and provide support on-location during test execution.
  • Collaborate with payload and launch provider teams to define interface requirements and ensure successful integration of all electrical systems.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the safety of equipment and personnel during the integration process.
  • Report to the Manager of Integration and Test. Work closely with Systems Engineers, Design Engineers, and the Program Management Office to ensure I&T is conducted to plan and successfully delivers a fully certified spacecraft for flight.
