About The Position

Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a full-time Turnaround & Construction E&I Specialist to lead the planning and execution of E&I scope for turnaround (TAR) and construction events at the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility, delivering work safely, on schedule, and on budget. The successful candidate will need strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, organizational, critical and strategic thinking skills. They also must have strong safety leadership experience and drive for safety focus while planning and executing work. This position is based in Mandan, ND and reports to the Turnaround & Construction Manager.

Requirements

  • Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years electrical and instrument experience required; Refining or Petrochemical industry preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to physically perform the essential job functions including, but not limited to, wearing all required PPE, working at elevated heights, confined space entry, fall protection, and respirator usage.
  • The work schedule for this position is a Monday – Thursday 4/10 schedule.
  • The position is expected to support a rotating on-call calendar approx. 4-6 weeks per year.
  • Must be able to work additional hours to support construction events and turnarounds as required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must have working knowledge of common industry standards, codes and practices such as, National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA electrical codes, state codes, and NFPA 70E.
  • Must have working knowledge of how to read and understand electrical schematic readings and P&IDs.
  • Must have working knowledge of wiring terminology, conduits, and conduit hardware.
  • Must understand electrical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), ladder logic and entry level programming.
  • Must have strong initiative, leadership, and collaboration skills, with proactive troubleshooting and strategic/critical thinking to drive effective problem solving.
  • Must be able to function in a team environment and effectively communicate with personnel of all levels and across multiple disciplines to include Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred.
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license preferred.
  • Previous turnaround experience preferred.
  • Experience with SAP, iTAR, P6 Primavera is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards applicable to major capital projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads work scope development, planning, scheduling, and field execution for all Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) work scopes included within construction projects and turnarounds (TAR)/outages.
  • Ensure MPC’s Safe Work Policies and Practices are adhered to in all aspects of work.
  • Champion electrical safety for construction and turnarounds.
  • Ensure MPC’s TAR & Construction Standard Practices are followed/implemented when planning, scheduling, and executing E&I work scope.
  • Monitor KPI's to ensure quality, cost and time targets are achieved.
  • Ensure critical path scope is identified, optimized and executed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure adherence to site safety requirements through field audits and safety meeting attendance.
  • Participates in preparation meetings and reviews affecting the project plan: Front End Loading (FEL) discussions, reviews and provides feedback on construction drawings and job packages, ensures the QA/QC process is imbedded in work plans and adhered to.
  • Submit recommendations from lessons learned to improve E&I planning and preparation efforts for construction and turnarounds.
  • Drives contracting strategies related to Construction/TAR E&I work scopes.
  • Enforce Plan of the Plan (POP) deliverables and hold E&I team accountable to meeting required due dates.
  • Ensure required E&I scope items are captured on TAR worklists prior to worklist freeze dates.
  • Ensure E&I TAR work scope complies with RSP 1308 and other applicable MPC Standards.
  • Develop temporary power needs and requirements for refinery TARs.
  • Develop control valve and MOV work scope.
  • Works with outside vendors/shops regarding repairs and rebuilds.
  • Assist with routine outages as necessary.
  • Review and finalize hiring plans for MPC and contractors (E&I) with TAR planning.
  • Work with onsite mechanical and piping planners to make sure (E&I) man hours are accounted for accurately in their job plans. This includes walking down packages with planners to identify any missed scope.
  • Assist (E&I) contractors in turnaround construction planning effort.
  • Approve contractors loop test and QA/QC packages.
  • Assure spec checks are performed on new equipment.
