About The Position

This position assists the EI&C Manager, Assistant Construction Managers, Construction Manager, and Engineering Department in electrical inspections and the quality control review of electrical systems on construction projects. Ensures the use of effective and consistent procedures and methodologies for electrical inspections. Reviews change orders, requests for information, and field changes related to electrical. Oversees a team of inspectors typically assigned to multiple projects. Assists in developing and maintaining electrical inspection procedures.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Electrical work, or a minimum of thirty college credit hours in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, combined with at least 5 years of experience in construction-related work in the industrial, water, or wastewater industry.
  • Construction-related work to include a minimum of 3 years of Lead Inspection experience.
  • Driving a District vehicle for NTMWD business will be required.
  • Must maintain a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of resident state.
  • Texas Journeymen Electrician license required, Texas Masters License preferred.
  • Must possess or have the ability to possess an OSHA 30hr, must currently possess an OSHA 10.
  • Must possess or have the ability to possess a Master Electrician license and/or and ICC Commercial related certification.
  • Extensive Knowledge of the NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code); NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, ICC family of model codes; Local, State, and National Codes and Regulations relating to major construction development, and electrical systems.
  • Proficient in identifying non-compliance issues in electrical installations and the ability to recommend practical solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, contractors and project managers.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor inspectors.
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending contract drawings, schematics and specifications.
  • Proficiency in use of word processing, spread sheet, scheduling and management software.
  • Ability to document and communicate field modifications to design Engineer.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have mathematical, technical, and computer skills with sharp observation to detail.
  • Knowledge of interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, flow diagrams, P&ID’s and construction blueprints required.

Nice To Haves

  • Texas Masters License preferred.
  • Experience with water and wastewater process systems, and pump stations an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision, training and leadership to Electrical Inspectors ensuring their professional growth and technical proficiency.
  • Supervises and coordinates assignments for Electrical Inspectors working multiple projects.
  • Routinely travels to all assigned inspection sites to monitor inspection activities and provide technical guidance to inspectors.
  • Keeps up with vacations and leaves and coordinates inspectors for project coverage.
  • Guides inspectors in implementing optimal Electrical inspection techniques.
  • Assists inspectors in keeping up with the project schedule.
  • Assists inspectors as needed with on-site inspections of electrical components, wiring, switchgear, transformers, and other equipment to assess and ensure adherence with project specifications and approved submittals.
  • Updates and further develop existing guidelines, procedures and check lists for inspectors.
  • Reviews inspectors daily report forms for completeness, accuracy and consistency.
  • Reviews and assists project managers and inspectors as required with project requests for information, change orders, field changes, and resolution of issues related to electrical.
  • Provides constructability review of electrical design plans and specifications for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensures inspectors are observing requirements and constraints of submittals and RFI’s.
  • Verifies the required tests are being done and reports are submitted.
  • Reviews design drawings, specifications, and plans for electrical systems to ensure accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
  • Participates in project design review meetings and in construction progress meetings.
  • Monitors progress schedules for all projects.
  • Occasionally fills in temporarily for inspectors on leave.
  • Verifies the inspector’s time sheets correctly reflect time spent on each project.
  • Keeps Engineering, Construction and Operations informed of project issues and status.
  • Assists and advises the Operations Departments with operational problems.
  • Ensures quality and efficient performance and consistency with NTMWD standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
