About The Position

Ensure the safe, accurate, and timely completion of the electrical installation of solar arrays per construction drawings and customer specifications, in coordination with the General Foreman.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate electrical qualification through a minimum of 8,000 hours of documented electrical work from previous employer or through Knobelsdorff.
  • Lead, in an organization of similar or greater complexities with the capacity to understand and manage multiple projects, multiple customers and personnel.
  • Eagerness to advance to the next level and assist in the growth of the industrial team.
  • Good critical thinking skills and the capability to troubleshoot and make logical project-minded decisions.
  • Knowledge of electrical, and/or photovoltaic (solar) construction
  • Self-starter & team player
  • Must be available to travel extensively (up to 100%) within regional states, including overnight stays for up to weeks at a time if required.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that represents a history of safe & competent driving.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out work and team assignments daily to drive efficiencies of installation.
  • Assist the Construction Manager and General Foreman with the creation of goal hours for the electrical installation of the site. Ensure daily work assignments align with goals.
  • Participate in the creation of the daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA) by recognizing and analyzing risks associated with electrical tasks. Ensure each member of the team is familiar with hazards and with steps to mitigate risks.
  • Familiarize yourself with company installation and safety standard procedures and best practices. Educate crew members on procedures.
  • In coordination with the Site Coordinator and General Foreman, maintain situational awareness of the Bill of Materials (BOM), and ensure daily work plans align with material availability. Communicate identified shortfalls and timeline of needs to the General Foreman and Site Coordinator.
  • Lay out personnel and equipment as necessary for wire pulls. Minimize friction and tension on wire as much as possible, and ensure insulation isn’t negatively affected during pulls.
  • Oversee completion of plug and play and ensure crew members are educated on how to manage module leads according to customer specifications.
  • Lay out tasks and personnel for timely and quality completion of DC terminations and wire labeling on homerun string wire as well as combiner boxes and inverters. Inspect terminations for quality of installation and correct discrepancies as needed.
  • Lay out tasks and personnel for timely and quality completion of AC terminations at inverters, switchgear, and transformers per customer specification and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the completion of electrical testing to include insulation resistance and open circuit voltage testing. Ensure individuals completing tests have a thorough understanding of the purpose of the tests and expected results given proper installation and wiring of arrays. Personally inspect all test results before submittal to the project management team.
  • Ensure DC string wire is managed per customer specifications.
  • Inspect system and perform troubleshooting as necessary to correct and restore DC health of system.
  • Assist in the installation of the Data Acquisition System (DAS) and applicable components at each site. Ensure thorough understanding of system requirements through study of the DAS single line diagram as well as the installation manual. Train and educate others on system function, components, and proper installation.
  • Maintain industry knowledge and train apprentices on electrical specifications and schematics necessary to complete each site.
  • Assist in leading daily safety meetings and job talks to ensure crew’s understanding of the daily work plan and associated requirements.
  • Access and interpret construction drawings and cut sheets as necessary to ensure proper installation of solar array components.
  • Ensure your team gains and maintains proper access to applicable software systems to ensure daily and weekly completion of both construction tasks and administrative requirements.
  • Ensure teams have a thorough understanding of assigned tasks each day. For each task assigned, teams should have a complete understanding of safety hazards and steps to mitigate risks, quality requirements, and efficiency expectations.
  • Maintain close coordination with the General Foreman to ensure electrical work aligns with overall project schedule updates, closeout activities, and site priorities.
