About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: TransMedics is transforming organ transplantation through the Organ Care System (OCS), a cutting-edge platform combining hardware, software, and clinical science. Our R&D Engineering team develops next-generation technologies that advance organ preservation and transplant care. The Electrical Engineering Intern will support hands-on R&D activities including schematic design, PCB layout, prototype development, testing, and electrical troubleshooting. This role offers direct exposure to product development in a regulated medical device environment. This internship is ideal for students who enjoy building, testing, debugging, and working closely with hardware systems. RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • College Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits (completion of Circuits I & II preferred)
  • Soldering experience
  • Experience using a DMM and/or oscilloscope
  • Strong desire to learn and gain hands-on experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Altium Designer or other PCB design software
  • Surface mount soldering experience
  • Cable building experience
  • Basic coding knowledge (Python, C)

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design & Development Assist with electrical schematic design Support PCB layout and board revisions Contribute to cable design and documentation Assist with prototype assembly and development
  • Testing & Validation Develop and execute electrical test procedures Collect and document test data Use DMMs and oscilloscopes for debugging and validation Support electrical rework and troubleshooting activities
  • Prototyping & Lab Support Perform soldering, including through-hole and surface mount components Assist with board bring-up and functional testing Support lab organization and equipment setup
  • Cross-Functional & Clinical Exposure Collaborate with Mechanical, Software, and Systems Engineers Opportunity to observe or participate in hands-on clinical lab activities if interested

  • PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES General office environment where there is a significant amount of time at a desk, working on computers and reviewing documents. This requires the ability to sit for extended periods. They also may need to stand for meetings or when moving around the office.
