About The Position

Hiwin Corporation is the leader in the innovation and manufacturing of motion control and mechatronic system technology.  We are one of the largest producers in the world of linear motion components such as: linear guideways, ballscrews, linear motors and stages. We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our fast paced, diverse, and safety-centric team. In this role you will provide mechatronic system design, integration and technical support for our diverse customer base.

Requirements

  • Familiar with office automation tools: MS Office, ERP, CAD;
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to North American customer sites to support system integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Travel as needed to support trade shows and industry events. International travel to Taiwan may be required. Estimated up to 10% travel.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE): Candidates with a Mechatronics Engineering Degree with a control’s concentration will be considered.
  • Relevant coursework and interest in motion control, automation, robotics, and mechatronics;
  • 1-2 years prior work experience with electrical testing equipment and instrumentation;
  • 2 years Electrical engineering experience preferably in mechatronics, with specific experience with electric motors, servo drives and closed-loop motion control;
  • Strong knowledge of electric motors; specifically, AC servo, linear servo, torque, and stepper motors;
  • Programming experience with motion controllers in contemporary programming languages (C++, C#, Python);
  • Strong knowledge of feedback control systems & theory, servo tuning, and sizing;
  • Proficient with multi-axis controllers and fieldbus protocols (ModBus, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, etc.);
  • Familiarity with high voltage 3-phase AC power.

Responsibilities

  • Provides the sales team and customers with technical support on all Hiwin electrical products (motors, drives, controllers, and Robot electrical systems);
  • Supports the mechatronics and electrical engineering teams on internal developments and external (customer) projects through communications with the  project team, conducting review meetings, and providing input pertaining to product design, specifications, system architecture and component selection;
  • Tests new products, including motors, drives and controllers. Evaluates and supports 3rd party drives and controllers. This includes testing, qualifying, and documenting such 3rd party products;
  • Tests and tunes motors, drives and motion controllers to validate performance to customer specifications;
  • Provides cable management for motors, encoders, sensors, etc. in motion systems. Creates wiring schematics, cable drawings and related documentation;
  • Supports the design automation team with electrical product data for the Mechatronic Sizing Tool, Configurator, PDM (Product Data Management), ERP, and other tools. Provides technical support to the development team. Tests tool performance and verifies validity of results, and supports debugging and updating;
  • Performs sizing and selection of mechatronic systems such as single or multi-axes motion systems, rotary tables, motors (including AC Servo rotary and linear motors, Torque motors, Stepper motors), and motor drives. Configures motion controllers, fieldbus communication and encoder signal per customer application;
  • Monitors conformity of Hiwin motors, drives and controllers to North American electrical codes and standards (e.g. UL, CSA);
  • Meets with customers to review project requirements. Provides training, and troubleshooting on product design and function;
  • Documents project information for the successful completion of each job. Maintains engineering files containing customer criteria and specifications, schematics, block diagrams, wiring documentation, etc.
