About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs Middletown Works has an immediate opportunity for an Electrical Engineer at our Middletown, OH plant within the Electric Power Department. The Electrical Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant’s electrical power systems, supporting both day‑to‑day maintenance and long‑term system reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • At least 3 years’ engineering or management experience in an industrial atmosphere is strongly preferred.
  • The position requires electrical training/experience in power systems and power electronics(diodes, scr’s) that are used throughout our power system.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the operation and maintenance of plant electrical system from 480V up 138 KV.
  • Supervise switching procedures, lockout, testing and grounding on the power system.
  • Manage employees and contractors to properly maintain and test power system equipment including transformers, relays, breakers, and motor starters.
  • Lead and assist in system troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Work with maintenance staff to determine the root cause of all electrical failures and develop/implement corrective actions
  • Monitor the inspection and preventative maintenance on large motors both AC & DC throughout the plant. This will also include startup/shutdown procedures, disconnecting/connecting motors, and maintaining control equipment and contractors.
  • Maintain and improve electrical documentation.
  • Develop long and short-term plans for equipment improvements.
  • Assist in planning equipment outages and upgrades.
  • Assist maintenance service provider and contractors during these plans.
  • Work with contractors and vendors to implement large projects.
  • Develop cost, benefits, plans for installation, and training needs.
  • Lead hourly crews in delay situations troubleshooting critical power system components and motors.
  • Must understand how to read one-line diagrams and schematic drawings of electrical circuits in order to troubleshoot and manage effectively.
  • Manage repairmen in meeting the established safety, quality and productivity goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
