About The Position

We are seeking a reliable and knowledgeable 1st Shift Electrical Engineer to support critical operations involving factory automation systems and radiation screening equipment calibration. This role includes a wide range of responsibilities, from equipment design and troubleshooting to preventive maintenance and repair, ensuring our production systems remain efficient, safe, and high-performing. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, repair, and upkeep of automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, and sensors. Additionally, you will perform failure analysis, calibration, inspection, and servicing of dosimeter reader/equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and maintaining time and diagnostic quality. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and technically skilled, with practical experience in both factory automation and low- and high-voltage electronic systems. Strong diagnostic abilities, a commitment to safety, and manual dexterity are essential to this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field.
  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting industrial automation equipment, electronic components, instruments, and printed circuit assemblies (PCAs).
  • Proficient in using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators for both low- and high-voltage diagnostics.
  • Strong ability to review, interpret, and design electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals to independently troubleshoot equipment, instruments, electrical components, and facility systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and engineering improvement projects and ensure manufacturing processes and procedures run as scheduled.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a working knowledge of 5S workplace organization practices.
  • Physically able to walk, stand, climb stairs, and lift up to 40 lbs for extended periods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with:
  • Automation manufacturing machine design/installation/maintenance and a working understanding of laser and radiation safety and regulatory standards.
  • PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC motors, servo and stepper motor controllers, industrial sensors, barcode scanners/cameras.
  • Electrical safety standards, wiring, and National Electrical Code (NEC) compliance.
  • CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks).
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (Kaizen, PSP), Standard Work (SW), 5S, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards and general industrial safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on engineering support for the assembly, debugging, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and instruments.
  • Support engineering improvement projects and process improvements.
  • Report progress and issues to the Engineering Manager.
  • Design, build, troubleshoot, and repair electrical instrumentation, electrical control systems, electronic instruments, and other related equipment.
  • Participate in and lead Kaizen events, including Standard Work development, TTM/WK implementation, and structured problem-solving (PSP) to improve new equipment issues.
  • Develop and maintain equipment calibration projects, including technical evaluation and cost justification.
  • Generate equipment design specifications and develop documentation for manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Apply fabrication and equipment design knowledge to lead or support continuous improvement projects.
  • Generate, control, and maintain all engineering documentation, including electrical and mechanical drawings, task instructions, engineering procedures, ECOs, ECRs, test reports, and process control documentation.
  • Utilize Forte Business Systems (FBS) tools and principles to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Respond promptly to engineering requests, verify requirements through analysis, and deliver all relevant safety documentation.
  • Communicate daily with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production Managers on issue resolution, outstanding concerns, and ongoing tasks.
  • Develop and review individual performance and development plans with the manager on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare and submit production and quality improvement reports to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, maintenance staff, and production technicians to meet monthly On Time Delivery (OTD) targets.
