About The Position

The purpose of the position of Electrical Engineer is to provide electrical engineering expertise to the organization by developing and using their skills and experience to actively challenge the organization in a positive manner that constantly increases organizational efficiency and operational excellence. Being a continual learner, student/teacher, and positive influence on the organization is critical to their success.

Requirements

Must have a current driver's license without violations that would prohibit insurability.
Must demonstrate strong computer skills.
Must become proficient in the use of Database software applications.
Must become proficient in the interpretation, use, and application of the National Electrical Safety Code and National Electric Code.
Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time, meeting deadlines, and reprioritizing workload as the need arises.
Must be able to interact with members/customers that result in positive impressions of the cooperative.
Work in many different settings from technical discussion to field troubleshooting.
Requires leadership ability to effectively communicate with other personnel.
Ability to effectively communicate with the public, membership, and other employees in person, over the telephone, and radio.
Ability to work with environmental community, both internal and external to the Cooperative.
A Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering, accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET).
The ability to become registered as a Professional Engineer in Arkansas.
Successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have all faculties necessary to meet position requirements and present a neat favorable professional appearance.

Responsibilities

Analyze system reliability and recommend maintenance activities that continually increase system reliability.
Makes electrical computations to determine type and arrangement of circuits and size, type and number of pieces of equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and lightning arrestors.
Extract information from multiple databases for circuit modeling, load analysis, metering analysis, etc.
Develop control and testing procedures to meet the current regulations and future NERC/FERC requirements.
Stay update to date on current NESC and NEC regulations.
Assist with coordination studies to provide reliable electricity to AVECC's Members.
Assist with the installation and testing of new equipment installed in both substations and downline.
Work directly with personnel in the Engineering Department to become proficient in trouble shooting substation equipment and apparatus.
Continually act as an information resource, project manager, and/or research analyst for new technology implementations.
In addition, the Engineer provides technical and administrative leadership during disaster operations.
Assist with the design and setup of AVECC's SCADA system.
Investigate member complaints related to service reliability, quality of service, potential electrical hazards, and theft of service.
Keeps well informed about developments in the field of distribution engineering.
Public Service Commission Reports & Audits – The Engineer prepares all engineering related annual reports, requests for data, and prepares for audits by the public service commissions of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Participate in workshops, educational programs, and statewide training meetings as directed.
Stay current on environmental issues as related to the industry.
Help coordinate and participate in the evaluation and implementation of outage reporting system.
Be available for after-hours work as required.
In addition to these responsibilities, may be assigned to perform other duties.
