About The Position

The Electrical Engineer supports the design, development, integration, and improvement of industrial automation, electrical power, and control systems used in Merrell Bros. equipment and facilities. The objective is to deliver safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective electrical systems that meet performance specifications, safety standards, and project timelines (On Specification, On Time, and On Cost).

Requirements

  • 7+ years of minimum experience in industrial electrical engineering, automation, or control panel design.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, UL 508A, industrial electrical standards, and machine safety requirements.
  • Experience designing systems for hazardous locations and understanding component certifications.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of industrial networking, communication protocols, and diagnostics.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to documentation quality.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent discipline required.
  • Ability to work for extended periods on a computer creating schematics and documentation.
  • Good visual acuity and manual dexterity required for detailed electrical review and inspections.
  • Must comply with safety requirements including PPE when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar), preferred.
  • Experience in HMI programming and interface development.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • UL 508A or industrial safety training a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical power distribution, control panels, and automation systems for Merrell Bros. equipment and projects.
  • Interpret and apply NEC, NFPA, UL, and applicable industrial electrical codes to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Design UL 508A industrial control panels including component selection, layout, schematics, and documentation.
  • Evaluate and determine appropriate SCCR / KAIC ratings during control panel design.
  • Design systems suitable for hazardous locations including Class I & II, Division 1 & 2 environments.
  • Select sensors, instrumentation, motors, drives, and electrical components appropriate for environmental and process conditions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, controls engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure integrated system performance.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
  • Support fabrication, panel build, and field installation to ensure design intent is met.
  • Participate in commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of automated systems.
  • Apply machine safety standards including OSHA, ANSI, ISO, and NFPA requirements.
  • Support R&D initiatives by developing and testing new electrical and automation concepts.
  • Document all engineering work including calculations, drawings, testing results, and project records.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and uphold Merrell Bros. safety, quality, and engineering standards.
